Easy Cheese Dip

Everyone loves cheese dip and everyone has their own favorite recipes. My recipe uses standard store bought ingredients and is cooked in a crock pot. There is some preparation required but the results are well worth the effort.

Also, this is my first Instructable so I welcome your constructive criticisms and suggestions.

Step 1: Ingredients and equipment

Ingredients:
1 Lb. sausage, ground beef, ground turkey, venison, veggie crumbles, or whatever you fancy!
(I'm "Big on the Pig" so I prefer hot pork sausage.)
1 - 32 oz block of processed cheese - brand does not matter
2 - 8oz packages cream cheese - this softens the mix up a bit
2 - 10 oz cans of diced tomatoes & chopped peppers - "Rotel" is a popular brand
Red pepper flake seasoning (optional, but I like things spicy!)
1 - fresh Jalapeno pepper
1 bag Scoops or chips or whatever you want to dip

Equipment:
Crock pot slow cooker at lease 5 quart size
Crock pot liner (optional but they make cleanup very easy)
Frying pan for browning meat
Can opener (not pictured)
Spoons for stirring meat and for stirring cheese dip
Pairing knife for slicing Jalapeno(s)
Butter knife for cutting the cheese

Wifey doesn't like when I use a metal spoon on her Calphalon frying pan... It voids the lifetime warranty. (And I'm not going to ask which warranty, Calphalon's or her's!)

We have a neighbor that makes a very similar dip every year at our block party ... and it's usually the first thing to go. Now I can make some whenever I want, thanks!

I make a very similar dip. I finely chop onion and brown it with the meat and I do not have any processed cheese in mine just cream cheese. Yes it is not the best looking dip but there is seldom any leftovers. If there is any left the next morning it is great over toast.

Ive made this many times in the past, it really doesn't look good to the unknowledgeable but once they get a taste (hopefully they like spicey dips) they want the recipe. Rotel has a habenaro version now that really kicks up sauces and dips

It looks (not good, moderated myself there), but I'm sure it tastes good.
What's your opinion upon using real cheese over processed cheese?
Also - what's good to dip into this?
