Easy Keyboard Dust Cover

Hello Again,

I work from home a week at a time. I recently got a new keyboard at work and loved the "newness" so much i wanted to keep it that way. So I thought of creating a cover for it to keep out the dust while I was away. Oh, and I did not want to spend $$ on it. Call me cheap...

This Instructable could not be easier and costs next to nothing to make. Most of the materials you have in your desk drawer already.

Step 1 Gather the Materials

Again the materials you will need are:

-Your Keyboard
-2 11x17 Sheets of Paper
-Staples and Stapler
-Sissors
-Scotch Tape
-Pencil/Sharpie

The pictures in this Instructable will be very helpful in visualizing what needs to happen. And it would help if you had a large work surface to do this on.

I've always wanted something for my laptop like this, but it needs to have more ventilation or it heats up too much. I haven't thought of/tried to think of a clever way to compensate for that.

If you are covering the keys up your not using the laptop, if your not using the laptop its off and not generating any heat. Am I missing something?

My laptop is almost always on and on my desk, open, with an additional external monitor and external keyboard and mouse plugged in. I pretty much use it as a desktop computer nowadays. ^_^

Not sure what type of laptop you have, but what is shown above will not work on a laptop anyways. Basically you just need to lay a sheet of paper over the keys.

On all laptops I have see, all the air vents are on the side, back or under (never vents on top by keys). Still not sure what you are talking about with heat. Maybe you need to clean the heat sink on the processor.

yes it was. but the marks you make will be for your specific keyboard so it's irrelevant.

I know a Dell keyboard when I see one I guess. This would be useful to me, as I tend to find that "muck" falls from the cracks in the ceiling (old office).
