Introduction: Easy Lightsaber Hilt

With the new Star Wars movie slowly approaching, I've felt the itch to make something Star Wars related. Well, what is more Star Wars then a Lightsaber?!?! Just a heads up, I didn't post a lot of picture with this build. It's super easy, and I wanted people to just get the idea of what to do, then go crazy with their own ideas. Ok, enough talk, lets dive in!

Step 1: What You'll Need

Once you hit your local home improvement store, you'll want to make your way to the plumbing section. My supplies were as follows:

1. Pop up Assembly sink drain

2. Black Electrical tape

3. Miscellaneous washers/rubber bands (for me, they were located right next to the drain I bought)

4. Wooden dowel

The rest of the supplies consisted of random screws I had laying around, as well as super glue. I actually used (most, if not all) the random hardware that came with the drain.

Step 2: Put It All Together

What I did, was use the bolt that was screwed to the side, for the bottom. I did this by placing the wooden dowel inside the hilt (also gives it some weight) and screwed the bolt on, to really hold it in place. I also wrapped the dowel in black duct tape to allow for a snug fit. I put a screw in the side of the hilt, directly into the dowel, to act as the power button. This is the point where your personal preference regarding the looks come into play. I decided to wrap the handle with the black tape, and use the black washers to just give it a different appearance. The top part of the hilt, is just the hardware that came with the drain.

Step 3: All Done!

And there you have it, your really to face the Empire!! I know there are a ton of Lightsaber tutorials on the net, but I wanted to show people that you can make a really cool hilt for about $10 and a few hour of your time. Again, I didn't use a lot of pictures in showing my process, since I want to see what everyone else comes up with. The drain is your foundation. Once you have that in place, go crazy! There is no right or wrong way to do this, place all the buttons and switches you like, let your imagination take over! Good luck everyone, and may the Force be with you!

This is so cool! What do you plan on doing for the blade?

Thanks for the kind words Tomatoskins! I wanted to keep this one simple, and just do the hilt. I 'am planning on doing a more elaborate one, with a blade as well as a more detailed tutorial. But I first have to come up with an idea of not only what to use as the blade, but exactly how functional I want it (light up, retractable, etc). As soon as I solve that problem, I'll be posting it here.
