In my time on instructables I have almost never seen a survival kit with a backpack. Backpacks are very easy to carry heavy hiking backs probably arent best for this situation. So I use a black school backpack that I have had for awhile black would be easiest because you can attach reflecters on to the pack to be easily seeen by rescuers.

NIce selection. I am leary about the pellet gun. It looks real.....If threatened, you might show it and they might walk away...then again if attacked, I think the BBs would just make them madder...certainly would not stop an attacker. Police would freak if they saw the gun as it looks life like. In a SHTF situation a 22 cal gun is better than none...it will stop and kill. Forget using your knife as a saw or hatchet. There are wire saws and fold up saws made to cut wood...Keep your knife for cutting.
Just some ideas.....thanks...

The first item in my survival kit is a credit card.

True, there are emergencies that can arise in which a credit card will be of no help. But there are many where it will be, and nothing else provides the same capabilities for so small a size and weight.

My uncle (long-time outdoorsman, has been shipwrecked in remote Alaska multiple times) says you really only need three things: (1) good sharp knife (2) waterproof matches and (3) something that burns easily, e.g. (dry) paper. You need all three to start a fire, which is your best bet for surviving- especially in wet conditions. I think the minimalist approach is best for everyday usage, since those are three things it's useful to have in your pocket anyway. But the backpack approach is nice too, for occasional wilderness trekkers. And the extra food is especially handy if you don't know how to hunt/forage where you're going.

Thanks! Your uncle is also right if your trying to keep it to the minimal amount of supplies! :) Thanks for reading!
