COMMENT (March 2011): If any connection between IMU and arduino is a bit "wobbly" the board will behave violently and erratically.
Connectors like this are OK for initial experiments but ideally I would get an arduino with solder holes or pins and solder everything together. I like ribbon cable as it keeps everything neat and tidy (buy or you can find lots of it inside old PC's).
