Introduction: Egg Carton IPad Stand

This instructable describes how to make a super easy five minute iPad stand out of an empty six pack egg carton.

Step 1: Material and Tools

You will need one empty egg carton that can hold six eggs. The size of the six pack carton is perfect since it is a few centimeters narrower than the iPad.

You will also need a pair of scissors for cutting the carton.

Step 2: Cutting of the Lid

The stand works by using the "pegs" in the bottom of the egg carton as support to lean against. The wide base of the carton help prevent the stand from falling over. We will only need the bottom half of the carton and can cut the rest of.

First cut of the lid. Then cut away the locking flap.

Step 3: Cutting the Slot

The trickiest part of making the stand is to cut the slot that will hold iPad in the front of the carton. Read all the paragraphs before cutting!

The idea is to cut a slot in the sides of the carton that aligns with the two pegs in the cartons center. Use a pencil to draw a line before cutting. Look at the second picture and you will see that the line lines up with the pegs that will support the ipad.

The bottom of the slot should be as deep as the cartons dimples.

After cutting the slop cut away the front of the carton that otherwise block the iPad screen. Remember to leave at least one centimeter of the slot (see pictures) so the iPad won't slip.

Step 4: Done!

The stand is now complete. Test it out.

It should be able to support your iPad both standing up and in portrait mode. But I guess that the design of egg cartons can differ so be a bit careful the first time you place you iPad into the stand.
