El Wire Dog Collar & Leash!

Have you ever wanted to have your dog stand out in the crowd? Well now your dog can be the star of the park with it's very own El wire collar and leash! Let your dog feel like he or she has style with this great gift for your furry little friend.

Tools:
*Needle
*Scissors (or some other cutting utensil that can cut fishing wire)

Materials:
*Dog Collar & Leash
*El wire
*2 Small AA Drivers
*Electrical tape
*Scotch tape
*Fishing wire

Skills needed:
Basic knowledge of sewing

*** This collar CANNOT get wet. Do not let dog swim in water with collar. This collar is used for night time walks and bragging rights.
***Make sure that your dog is fully grown. You will be sewing on El wire to this collar and there is no way to tighten it.

With all that said, let's get started!

Step 1: Sizing the Collar

Make sure that the dog collar fits snugly around your dogs neck. This will be the permanent size of the dog collar so make sure that it is on right.

Great Idea.... I get home pretty late, so we take our pooches to the dog park late at night so they can run.. but my wiener dog is black, so he is impossible to find at night in the park enclosure.... we have used those disposable glow stick bracelets, but this makes so much more sense!

um...what exactly is el wire??? hee hee yea ive never even heard of it...so it would be great if someone coul explain to me with words i can understand what el wire is. thanks! :)

electroluminescent wire is a wire that is cold to the touch, bendable, and can easily be attached to things. it is pretty much like neon but bendable and cold, or a glow stick that never wears out until like 6 year of continuous use.

Careful which inverter you use, many emit high frequency sound which may irritate your dog.

Many years ago playing around EL wires, my friends found out that cheap one time cameras with flash can be used as power suply for EL wires. The curcuit that charges the capacitor for the flash, is high voltage. Beware of long time damage to EL wire because of over voltage. Most photo shops will give you used cameras for free. :)

My Lab (Jake), is three years old now, tough to keep him out of the water... Is it just no swimming, or is rain, or running through water also a bad thing. I don't want electrocute him (most of the time). Weather here is kind of unpredictable, storm can pop up in minutes. At the park, he needs a drink, but can never tell if that is all he is going to do. He'll usually walk out into the water a little ways, but will lay down if it's hot, go for a swim if he see birds (or pretty much anything move). Probably should wait until grows up a little more, or a waterproof driver...

They do have el wire that's water proof, but yes, you might need to make a special casing for the inverter.

That sounds kinda like my dog and conditions. I usually just put my collar on her whenever we have company over or if she is inside. And I put it on her when we go for night-time walks. I've heard of "water-proof" El wire. This El wire is just a little more resistant to the water and cannot be submerged completely. I also bought end caps for the end of the el wire and I taped up my heat shrink tubing and soldering job with electrical tape. You could also try to wrap it in like a ziplock bag whenever he goes for a swim or just use another collar. Hopefully I was helpful.
