Introduction: Electronic Light Sensor Piano

Picture of Electronic Light Sensor Piano

This is a project that allows you to play piano by covering light sensors

Step 1: Parts

Picture of Parts

1. Arduino Uno

2. Breadboard

3. Male wires

4. Light sensor

5. Resistor

6. Speaker

Step 2: Set Up

1. Place 5 light sensors in breadboard

2. Connect each light sensor to different pins using male wires

3. Connect each light sensor to Ground, with a resistor to limit the amount of energy that flows

4. Connect each resistor to 5v

5. Connect a speaker to ground and pin using male wires

6. Play the piano by covering each light sensor at different times

Step 3: Code Part 1: Define Gives Each Note a Tone

Step 4: Code Part 2: Assign Pinmodes and Establish Integers

int melody[] = {

NOTE_C4, NOTE_G3, NOTE_G3, NOTE_A3, NOTE_G3, 0, NOTE_B3, NOTE_C4

};

// note durations: 4 = quarter note, 8 = eighth note, etc.: int noteDurations[] = {

4, 8, 8, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4

};

void setup() {

// put your setup code here, to run once:

pinMode(A1, INPUT);

pinMode(A2, INPUT);

pinMode(A3, INPUT);

pinMode(A4, INPUT);

pinMode(A5, INPUT);

pinMode(8, OUTPUT);

Serial.begin(9600);

/*for (int thisNote = 0; thisNote < 8; thisNote++) {

// to calculate the note duration, take one second divided by the note type.

//e.g. quarter note = 1000 / 4, eighth note = 1000/8, etc.

int noteDuration = 1000 / noteDurations[thisNote];

tone(8, melody[thisNote], noteDuration);

// to distinguish the notes, set a minimum time between them.

// the note's duration + 30% seems to work well:

int pauseBetweenNotes = noteDuration * 1.30;

delay(pauseBetweenNotes);

// stop the tone playing:

noTone(8);

}*/

Step 5: Code Part 3: If the Light Sensor Is Covered, Then Play a Tone

}

void loop()

{

// put your main code here, to run repeatedly:

int ldr1 = analogRead(A1);

int ldr2 = analogRead(A2);

int ldr3 = analogRead(A3);

int ldr4 = analogRead(A4);

int ldr5 = analogRead(A5);

//Serial.println(ldr5);

if (ldr1 > 500)

{tone(8, NOTE_A3);}

else noTone(8);

if (ldr2 > 300)

{tone(8, NOTE_C4);}

else noTone(8);

if (ldr3 > 210)

{tone(8, NOTE_D4);}

else noTone(8);

if (ldr4 > 400)

{tone(8, NOTE_E4);}

else noTone(8);

if (ldr5 > 310)

{tone(8, NOTE_C4);}

else noTone(8); }
