Introduction: Enclosure for 3d Printer Using Ikea Box

This very simple enclosure was made using two transparent Ikea boxes.

Step 1: Get a 3d-printer

First off you will need a 3d-printer.

Mine is a Mendel 90 from Nophead but many RepRap's have roughly the same dimensions.

Step 2: Get Boxes

I have used a total of two boxes and one lid from "Ikea Samla".

Components are:
Transparent box 78x56x43 (cm), 130 litres
Lid for transparent box 78x56x43 (cm), 130 litres
Transparent box 56x39x28 (cm), 45 litres

These boxes should cost you around 240 sek or 30€ or 40$.

Step 3: Get a Jig Saw

Get a Jig Saw. We will use it to cut some holes in the lid of the large box. 

Step 4: Time to Cut Some Holes

Cut holes according to the picture below. Measures are:

1. Make an outtake in the top right corner for the power and usb connector of your printer. I made an opening approx 10 cm from the right edge of the lid which is 5 cm deep and 1 cm wide. 

2. Open up a large hole in the middle of the lid. The opening should be 40 cm wide and 36 cm high. The upper right corner of the lid is located 8 cm from the right side of the lid and 10 cm from the top side of the lid. 

3. (For Mendel 90) Make two slits approximately 0.5 cm wide in the large hole. These slits are needed for the mendel 90 dibond sheets to fit. Slits are located 10.5 cm from right side and 8 cm from left side of large opening.

4. (For Mendel 90) I added some black tape to the lower edge of the box opening. This is because it is hard to completely avoid that the x-axis ribbon cable does not touch the lid side.



Step 5: Add Slits

Add two slits to the smaller box as seen in the picture.

They are located 12 cm away from box sides. 

Step 6: Voila

Remove the "wheels" from underneath the large box. Put everything together and Voila!
