Epilog Challenge Winners

Instructables and Epilog Laser are happy to announce the winners of the Epilog Challenge! We asked you to show us something amazing with a green twist and the response was huge! There were so many great ideas among the 478 Instructables entered, but one in particular stood out among the rest.

The grand prize winner is user daniel_reetz, for his Instructable DIY High-Speed Book Scanner from Trash and Cheap Cameras. His Instructable carefully describes a process for making a cheap and effective book scanner. With lots of clearly labeled photos and a great video to describe the process, daniel_reetz's entry is an outstanding example of what an Instructable can be.

So congratulations to daniel_reetz and everyone else who entered the contest! It's awesome to see all the wonderful ideas generated for the Epilog Challenge. We hope they inspire some great new ideas, and wish everyone the best of luck on future projects!

I quite agree with you, Earth is fine and will be fine no matter how much damage we do to her, we are really trying to save our own skins - from getting hot or wet, lol.

Exactly.

I agree, too too. =p

though how much damage have we really caused? we might be trying to save ourselves from our wasteful habits (like buying junk)
May 26, 2009. 3:38 AMPlasmana says:
The damage we had done to Earth is... Very little.

Earth is experiencing a dramatic change for an entirely different reason, Earth is changing it's poles around, thus earth's magnetic shield is decreasing, letting in more space radiation causing many changes.

We do not know why and how is this happening, and most people don't like to think about it, so the government say the changes are being caused by us. NO! You will be surprised how little carbon dioxide they are in the atmosphere, practically none.

That is the truth. This will probably get classified as "a lie", becasue the government always seem to have backup word for their own lies.

True, but we do need to take responsibility for the crap we leave everywhere that is not biodegradable and affects peoples lives by poisoning third world countries.

and co2 is heavier than air anyway so i does not float into the atmosphere.

The problem is, we say we don't believe in global warming from man, and then they say that we don't believe in the earth getting warmer

Jan 21, 2010. 6:05 PMcutting Matt says:
I'm not entirely sure that I understand what you were getting at, though I could argue the same point for pro-global-warming people. When the temperature is warmer than average, it's "Global Warming is upon us! The end is nigh unless we invest in green stuff!" But when the temperatures are cooler, it's "You've destabilized the climate because of Global Warming! The end is nigh unless we invest in green technology!" Most people will say that this is because the science isn't settled, although they will rapidly assure you that the science is most definitely settled about weather Global Warming exists.

ya. the figures are something like an increase of 0.0128%, resulting in an increase in the absorbtion of the suns rays of 0.0068%. the poles had reversed themselves a couple of times in the past. it is totally natural. though, with fanatics equating not believing in Al Gore to killing 1000 people, i'm not quite sure how global warming survives.
May 26, 2009. 4:41 PMEl Mano says:
"I quite agree with you, Earth is fine and will be fine no matter how much damage we do to her"? Earth may survive its human infestation, and maybe the cockroaches will too, but can humanity? Though I believe Global Warming is a bit over-dramatized, we should try to avoid poisoning our home with toxins, heavy metals, and battery acid.
May 27, 2009. 5:04 PMcutting Matt says:
of course. we pollute, we put toxins, we destroy stuff. not a lot, but we do. when i asked my green club leader if he believed in global warming, he said yes, not because he believed the planet was heating up, because believing the planet was heating up would solve many other problems, like pollution.
May 27, 2009. 7:20 PMEl Mano says:
That's an interesting way of looking at it. Whether GW exists or not, believe in it to get yourself to recycle and stuff.
May 28, 2009. 10:12 AMOwenmon says:
Hahahahahaha. "Recycling". *chuckles*
Jun 1, 2009. 2:10 PMcutting Matt says:
first you reduce (don't buy useless stuff) then you reuse (what else can i do with this) then, as a last ditch atempt to save, you recycle. What's the problem with reduce? our economy would collapse Whats the problem for reuse? its cheaper to buy a new microwave for 75$ than to fix it for double that. what is the problem with recycling? there is no market for it. nobody wants it.

I disagree that the "aNtistic design" is particularly green.... First smashing an ants nest to pieces for the sake of a table, then pouring molten metal onto them?!
May 21, 2009. 2:57 PMsomebullcrap says:
i used imported red fire ants which are not native to the US and have cause native ground nesting birds to decline .to put more simply they are a pest (all of this was pointed out in my instructable)
