Exploding Slingshot Ammo

Exploding Slingshot Ammo

In this Instructable i will show you how to create your very own exploding slingshot ammunition from everyday household items.

These include;
Matches,
Match box (some sand paper types can be used here - explained later),
Electrical tape - I tend to use duct tape,
scissors,
and of course, the slingshot for firring the ammo.

Step 1Prepare the Matches

Prepare the Matches
Simply remove the heads of the matches by cutting them off with the scissors. A exact o knife may be used. Either way be careful as the match heads will want to fly off.

The number of match heads will vary upon how big you want to make your ammunition. Cut about 15 and then complete step 2 and 3. You may wish to add a few more after you see the space you can fill. I have used these where a whole box of matches went into one 'bullet'. It was a lot better through the explosion phase but accuracy was a little more difficult.

cool man, but i think using strike anywhere heads, then just some foil sides will do and i have those in America (sparklers) but they are pretty dangerous (sparks, fountain of fire, goes on dry grass) also, couldn't you just use part of the striker?

Gah. Why didn't WE ever think of foil? SOO much easier.

The beauty of strike anywhere matches is that with the proper impact, they're pretty much guaranteed to detonate. If you're ever feeling froggy (and INSANELY bored) fill a tennis ball with just strike anywhere match heads and throw it against a brick wall (with NOTHING flammable nearby.)

To add an immediate reply to my previous post, for this very reason they're incredibly hazardous to transport, and for this reason, very hard to come by anymore, and those you do find tend to be stupidly expensive. Maybe you could find some sparklers to shave down and rig a fairly reliable trigger mechansim?

*heh heh* What can be more fun than home-made weapons that people will put into the hands of children AND fire?

Believe it or not, we actually did this as kids. Our findings were that the "strike-anywhere" matches were preferable (though harder to find now days.)

For packing, we would just use wads of toilet paper. It's important to note that with both designs, it's important to know that pinching the ammo too hard when firing, or "misfiring" where it clips the side of the slingshot can end... Poorly. Might want to put a disclaimer on this one.
