5. A T10 SECURITY STAR BIT
6. A T6 STAR BIT

IT ALSO SHOWS SOME WIRE BUT I NEEDED THAT AT FIRST TO FIGURE THIS MOD OUT YOU WILL NOT NEED IT, ALSO A WIRELESS HEADSET YOU WILL ONLY NEED THIS WHEN YOU ARE READY TO TEST OUT IF YOU DID IT CORRECT.

just to tell everyone who doesn't know already,they made an update for the messenger pad through xbox live,so now the wireless headset issue is fixed.
so many people were complaining to microsoft about this so thats why they made the update.

Way overdone solution for the quadrant use problem. I had the same problem of the controller thinking a headset was plugged when the chat pad was attached or even when it was removed. It wouldn't let me set my wireless mic to quadrant one. Opened up just the controller to test some contact points and found all you need is a single jumper wire on two of the 2.5mm jack solder connections.

Keeps the badly designed 2.5mm socket from always reporting something as plugged in, lets me use the wireless along with the chat pad, and best of all if I plug a headset into either the chat pad or controller it correctly takes precedence and works perfectly.

1/100 the effort of this and undoing it is simple as removing a single jumper wire. Haven't found need to remove it on the three wireless controllers I used this method on.

i have not replied to a comment till you. i understand i used caps lock and i find it funny that everyone comments on the fact i used all caps. but if you are not smart enough to complete this mod then please don't talk trash. i also understand that some people (like yourself) like to just hear or read your pointless nonsense. i have had many people complete this mod and love it and tell me so, and the same people make jokes on my caps lock. notice i am not on caps lock because you are not worth yelling at. have a great life and hope to hear or read your pointless advice again. p.s. i use my mod everyday and it works fine. and if you would like to be able to remove the messenger kit from the controller just reroute the imputes to the headphone jack....... think of that? if you need help i will show you how to do that as well. this site is to share knowledge not drive to your house and do things for you. please let me know if this helps you.....lol.

Ok, the vast majority of the Caps-Lock advice in these comments is just plain rude, and most of these people should be ashamed of themselves. But I do agree that all caps makes it difficult to read all the text, and suggest that you not use that technique on your next instructable.

That having been said, do you know what the problem is that was causing the chat pad and the WIRELESS headset (since most of the other commenters seem to have missed that detail) from working together in the first place? I have yet to get a WIRELESS headset, so I have yet to experience the problem. Basically, I want to know what the problem is, and how exactly this modification fixes it.

I use the Messenger kit (i.e. Keyboard with headset plugged into it) all the time to play on-line CoD 4 and GoW2 and I do not see the point of your Instructable. If your device does not work, just return it !!

Same here, I've used my wired keypad, at the same time as my wireless headset. Before I got the headset, I used the wired one and have never had a problem. This instructable apparently only instructs you to bypass the connection with a permanent one, I'm thinking he may have had lint on his contacts or something of the like. Ensure you actually have this problem, use some diagnostic skills, and then if all else fails, wire away. Which reminds me, I would never wire a fan directly into the wall if the plug broke. Just replace the plug, you may want to move the fan someday.

Also just a general update for those of you not aware of it though I think most people by now are, the new headsets are the cheap, useless kind that have the mute in a position where you must remove your hand from gameplay to use it... bah, I'm babbling. Alternatively if you would like to keep your warranty intact and not risk messing up the solder job easy though it be you can go out and find a extension that fits in to the jack on the bottom of the keypad such as the one that come with rock band, ideally if you have rock band you should just use the adapters and the clips that keep it from coming unplugged. As a side note contrary to popular belief CAPS LOCK IS NOT CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL, nor does it add anything positive to your istuctable.

I always use a wireless controller with Messenger Kit and the wireless headset. Never had a problem with it. Never heard anyone else have a problem with.

Just like to make a point, I wouldn't recommend buying the wireless headset as mine broke within 6 months due to the fact it started to connect to the xbox as a controller and not a mike. There's a lot of complaints about it in reviews as well.

color me stupid, but i MUST have missed something. You have a wireless controller, wireless headset, and a wired messengerkit. plug in the messenger kit, and the wireless headset stops working(right?) So you remove the plug from the messenger kit, and hardwire it to the controller. now the headset works. HOW?!?!?!? Step 5 reveals an 8-solder pad connector on the controller, and 7 wires from the communicator(keyboard). the only reason i can think that this would work, where the normal jack plug-in wouldn't is if pin 8 is pulled to ground when the communicator is plugged in, right? Does the headphone jack built into the keyboard no longer work after this mod? If so, would it be easier to just de-solder the 2 wires from the headphone connector, on the communicator, and call it quits?

you do know that on the bottom of the keypad there is a mic jack that works with the mic u get free (with the msn kit) or the new mics you can buy

hmm, ive never used a wireless headset. why do you need to hack it up in order to use it? does it not allow you to use the headset if it knows somethings plugged in or something? cause after all that, the port is blocked by the keypad... also, caps lock is not your friend, i felt like you were yelling throughout the i'ble.
