Introduction: Fabric Diary Cover
Hi guys, today we will be making fabric diary covers. These are really easy and quick to make. They make cute presents. As well as steo by step instructions with pictures, a video is also available. Enjoy =D
Step 1: The Pattern
First, you need to measure your book/diary. Top to bottom and from cover to cover ( do keep your diary close for that step) .
Then transfer these measurements on paper, you should have rectangle.
Next, you're going to extand this rectangle on either side by 6cm to make the flaps.
Then you are going to add a 1cm seam allowance all aroud the rectangle.
Tha last thing to to is to draw a mark where the flap meets the rest of the cover. Where you will cut your fabric, you will need to transfer these markings onto your fabric. It will save you time in the futur.
Step 2: Let's Start
You will cut one body piece out of your outter fabric and one out of your lining.
Put them right side together, and sew the short edges together with a straight stitch and a 1cm seam allowance. Repeat on the other side.
Turn the tube inside out and press your seam with your iron.
Step 3: The Flaps
Turn the tube around so the seam are exposed.
We are going to work on each layer individually first.
On your lining, pinch the fabric at the marking so you will create a fold, then press in place with your iron. Then repeat for the other side of the lining and the outter fabric.
Once done, match the folded edges together on either side, the seam on the short edges will be pushed toward the inside. Then pin eveything in place.
Step 4: Sew It Together
Sew along the two long edges, make sure to leave gap on one of the side for turning your work inside out
Step 5: Finishing Touch
with a pair of scissor, clip the corner of your cover . Make sure to cut withing your seam allowance and do not cut through your sewing line. This will releave bulk. Turn the cover inside out and give it a good press. You won't need to close the opening shut but you can if you wish.
