Fabric Napkin Rings / Servilleteros De Tela

These beautiful napkin rings are made from remnant fabric and unmatched buttons. Very cheap and funny. Perfect for parties, even as souvenir to take...

This is based on an original idea from Merriment Design:

but I'm showing you some modifications I've made. Here you have two examples, but I hope post here pictures of your own creations!

Step 1: Tools and Materials / Utiles Y Materiales

You will need:

* Beautiful fabric.
* No-sew interface.
* Buttons of different colours and types.
* Cardboard tube.
* Thread and needle.
* Pencil and rule.
* Scissors, cutter and cutting mat.
* While glue, water and paintbrush.
* Sheet of paper (the thicker the best), or ribbon.

Instead for no-sew interface, I've used a white cloth (to clean windows). Cardboard tube comes from aluminum foil in this example.

Necesitas:

* Retales bonitos.
* Entretela.
* Botones de diferentes tipos y colores.
* Tubo de cartón.
* Hilo y aguja.
* Lápiz y regla.
* Tijeras, cutter y superfície de corte.
* Cola blanca, agua y pincel.
* Hoja de papel (grueso mejor), o cinta.

En lugar de entretela, yo he usado un trapo blanco (de limpiar ventanas). El tubo es de un rollo de papel de aluminio en este caso.

Step 2: Cutting / Cortando

Start cutting these pieces, for each napkin ring:

* A slice of 5 cm from cardboard tube.
* A strip of 5 cm from no-sew interface.
* A strip of 9 cm from fabric.
* A strip of 4 cm from paper.

If you want a bigger napkin ring, you must increase all measures properly. The length of each strip depends on diameter of cardboard tube, but now do not cut exactly. You can reduce it later.

Comienza cortando para cada servilletero:

* Un trozo de tubo de cartón de 5 cm.
* Una tira de entretela de 5 cm.
* Una tira de tela de 9 cm.
* Una tira de papel de 4 cm.

Si deseas hacer un servilletero más grande, aumenta cada medida apropiadamente. La longitud de las tiras depende del diámetro del tubo, pero no lo cortes exacto. Más tarde puedes quitar lo que sobre.

Step 3: Sewing the Button / Cosiendo El Boton

Mark the centre of fabric and sew one button on it. Check out this wonderful video from threadbanger if you need help:

Step 4: Glueing Outside / Pegando Por Fuera

Prepare a mix with two parts of glue per one part of water. Glue the no-sew interface on outside of the cardboard tube, cutting the excess. Let it dry some minutes and then glue the fabric on it, now with some overlapping.

Prepara una mezcla con dos partes de cola blanca con una de agua. Encola la entretela en el exterior del tubo de cartón, cortando si sobra. Déjalo secar unos minutos y luego encola la tela, ahora dejando cierto solapamiento.

Step 5: Glueing Inside / Pegando Por Dentro

Make some cuts in the fabric to help it folding, and glue it on the inside of the cardboard tube. Let it dry some minutes and glue the paper (or ribbon) covering the fabric inside. Let it dry again, and to finish apply some glue in order to make it more resistant.

Haz varios cortes en la tela que sobresale para ayudar a doblarla, y encólala en la parte interior del tubo de cartón. Déjalo secar unos minutos y a continuación encola el papel (o la cinta) cubriendo la tela por dentro. Déjalo secar de nuevo, y para finalizar aplica cola por dentro para hacerlo más resistente.
