Step 2: Non-Sweet Side (Orange Colored)

Place 2 Tbsp water into a small bowl. Add 2 Tbsp gelatin. Set aside for at least 5 minutes.

In a small saucepan, place 1/3 cup carrot juice and 1/4 teas cumin (other juices/spices will also work). Heat on low-medium to simmering. Add the gelatin. Stir until gelatin is melted.

Pour into pan and place in refrigerator to chill. Once it is set-up and cool, about an hour or so, proceed to the next step.
If you replaced the carrot juice with orange juice, do you think that would be enough sugar to stop them going off?
This is so awesome. I was just wondering, though, could you make them using cmbooher's homemade gummy recipe?
Fainting Fancies Just Add Chloroform!
I tried to make these over the weekend with my cousin... it didn't go so well. I don't know if we were doing it wrong or used the wrong kind of gelatin, but it clumped up really fast, looked nothing like yours, and smelled as if it were something you'd put in the puking pastilles. We were, however, able to make fever fudge and puking pastilles without any trouble. She put a little too much garlic in and not enough anise, and then over-did the cinnamon and was really lenient on the cayenne, but those two turned out great. We ran out of time before we could get the nosebleed nougat, :( But, something to look forward to. :)
I mention that these should probably be refrigerated due to the lack of preserving component on the carrot side. Yes, they do. I sealed a few in a zip top bag and the carrot side molded within a few days. My husband thought that side might taste better with the mold but he wasn't willing to confirm this. Yuck!
Today in brandbagstore.net bought a bag. Pretty cheap
These are so funky! I plan to make some of these Weasely's treat for some friends of mine who are bid fans of the books! I can't wait to see what you come up with next. :)
