Step 5Cage Assembly/ Frame

Cage Assembly/ Frame
the frame is a box made of 2"x4"

bottom base is holding the bottom of shaft.
the top is holding the top of the shaft also in the future
it will hold the coils(in a later step)

the walls are assambled in a way that half of the turbine is showing
to mount the wind deflection(in next step).

the cage is simple, the trick is to keep it square and croocked.

making the right kind of lightweight durable weather proof stand is as difficult as building the turbine. Add the difficulty of fabicrating a generator and all the necessary electricals and storage it becomes a difficult project. but then alot of design and thinking was generated but your effort yours alone probably had dozen spinn offs. I admire you greatly for open sourcing your design and helping others with there's you are a great worker as others have said. The ultimate wind turbine will come form all previous attempts and those awh haw monents will be worth it when your gen spins in the wind and the meter says its producing as it should be. The rest you guys get your geners up and spinning so there's always more to bewtter upon. SmaLL or large does not matter in modeling prototypes it's learning the elements of overall design.

Are you sure the "deflectors" are a good idea? They seem to bias the design towards capturing wind from 4 specific arbitrary directions.

Average RPM with variable wind direction, or instantaneous RPM with fixed wind direction? If the wind is coming in perpendicular to the deflector surface, drag would be reduced for that particular wind and RPM would improve. On the other hand if the wind is coming in at 45 degrees to the same surface, I think you might notice a reduction in RPM. And I suspect the minimum starting wind speed will also go up. The 15% number is very interesting though. Just shows how much of a difference drag makes in non-lift type designs. Good stuff. Thanks!
