Here is a quick tutorial on how to make a felt cupcake like the one I just made.
If you don't have pre-made patterns, you have to be resourceful, that's what I did. Give it a try :)
Have fun!

Here is what you will need:

  • two aluminium baking cups,
  • scissors,
  • pencil (or any other thing to trace on felt),
  • felt pieces: white and light brown,
  • needle and thread on the matching colors,
  • non allergic filling,
  • any toppings of your choice... the fake kind :)

You should show how to do the whipped cream - it is an incomplete pattern without it - and the photo makes us think that you will show all steps.

I made some of these and gave then to my Grandma as a B-day present. I gave them to her as pincushions,so the pins in them looked like sprinkles. They were so cute!

Great cupcake, how did you make the ruffle bit. If you don't like cutting out the felt like me as I always make a mess, visit http://www.feltcutouts as they do custom felt shapes.

Thanks for sharing this great tutorial!  I'm trying to make a few of these for a friend and I was wondering if you'd mind explaining how you made the ruffled cream top you used?

I made 4 for my friends birthday and on each of them put a lettre of hername... SOOO CUTE!!! She loved them. Another nice design I made wassimply a blue icing with cream and red sprinkles(not on icing) It looked awesome.

I LOVE this it is so cute...I have made a million little felt things but haven't attempted a cupcake yet, is the whipped cream made just like a ruffle? I am working on a birthday cake it was really easy I used a foam form from American felt and craft and it went together like a dream, but adding the whipped cream detail would be the "icing on the cake". :)

@egreen767 I've been gathering up ideas for making 'food' like this to give as gifts to kids as an alternative to all the ugly plastic play-food.

What does one do with a felt cupcake? It looks delicious though.

I can easily see it morph into a pin cushion. In fact, you can fill the strawberry with filament so that it can sharpen the pins and then scatter the pins all around the cupcake so that it looks like sprinkles. ...I'm getting hungry just thinking about it now...

You admire it! Or you can put a little tag on it and use it as a substitute greeting card. I love it!
