Fever Fudge by starshipminivan
Contest WinnerFeatured
Inspired by the inventions of the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter books, these two-sided confections are the perfect blend of hot and cool.  Eating the red half will cause the heat to rise in your head.  Cool the heat by biting into the blue half.  This version of Fever Fudge may not affect muggles as strongly as it does wizards.

Stock your own Skiving Snackbox using these candies, some bloody good Nosebleed Nougat, and delightfully nauseating Puking Pastilles.

Can you make an acid pop sour candy?
ETfonehome says: May 25, 2012. 1:31 PM
Do you have to use gel or powder food coloring? Or can you use liquid coloring?
starshipminivan (author) says: May 25, 2012. 7:03 PM
Liquid coloring is more diluted and the color will not be as deep but you can use it.

Ok thanks.

how many pieces did you get from this batch? i would love to make these to take to the anime convention im on staff for this weekend, so many of the other staff members are Harry Potter fans
starshipminivan (author) says: Aug 15, 2011. 6:03 PM
It makes about 32 good-sized pieces. If you want a larger batch, I suggest you double it and prepare it in a square 8 or 9 inch baking pan.

How do you make the box??????????
starshipminivan (author) says: Jun 2, 2011. 12:00 PM
It's a small red jewelry box from a craft store. I inked three letter W's on the lid and lined the box with parchment paper before adding the candy.

thts really smart! :D

you can actualy put some graphite from pencil in the red side of the candy that will actualy couse youre body temperature to rise
RobFS1 says: Feb 28, 2011. 10:41 AM
Why is that?
andiukas223 says: Feb 28, 2011. 12:09 PM
your blood cells detect graphite as an organism who is not from your body so you body increases the temperature to extract that organism out of you but it does nothing bad for you or for your body you will just feel coldness and your body temperature will rise, but don't use colored graphite just the usual pencil graphite :)

Weird thought but it does makes sense. Are you going to try making some that way?
I'll probably stick with the spiced version myself but this is not a recipe--more like a modular food concept (chocolate + sweetened condensed milk = soft solid) so I know people are going to tinker with it.

actualy i made some and tested it in small doses and i hat hight temperature for 6 hours

Does it actually give a fever?

If so that is very strange.
starshipminivan (author) says: Mar 2, 2011. 4:44 PM
No, it doesn't. The "fever" side is just spicy fudge. It might make your face feel warm but it shouldn't bring on a fever. It's just a fun candy to make for Harry Potter fans.

Yummy looking candy for your wizards and muggles alike!

May I suggest a couple of things? Tell us how big bowl and the pan are. Nothing like having a hot, candy I need to pour NOW and the pan I picked is too small. Or too big.

Is the finished product sticky? Gooey? Soft? What is the consistency? Usually recipes state that a confection should be stored in the fridge, an air tight container, separated by parchment paper, or something along those lines. Of course it may be that you don't know how to store them because they get eaten up so fast? :-)

How many of what size candies does this make? Those chunks look pretty big in the tin.

Don't let my comments get you down, it is still a great instructable.

Great idea and I love the lead picture.

Thank you. I have a supply of Halloween props that never actually gets put away. They are great for shots like this.

Vindicated! I made mint fudge in school and everyone thought I was crazy... mind you, it was traditional fudge, with a fairly high butter content, so the butter + mint combination might not have been quite as palatable as this.... and I coloured it bright green...

Sweet. Are you going to make puking pastillies?
SWV1787 says: Feb 22, 2011. 4:59 PM
that shouldn't be too hard just make half laced with ipecac and the other half laced with pepto bismaul
starshipminivan (author) says: Feb 22, 2011. 2:08 PM
I was considering it. I sort of have an idea for Nosebleed Nougats and Fanting Fancies. To me, puking pastilles would have to be a savory mix of unmatched flavors. They would also have to be a very telling shade of green
starshipminivan (author) says: Feb 22, 2011. 6:10 PM
Now I AM making puking pastilles though they will not be medication-laced. The vomit-inducing side has some flavors I found in my spice cupboard and the other side is mint. To be faithful to the books, they are orange and purple. They might be set enough to list tomorrow or the next day.

Could you also use a double-boil method to melt the chocolate? If so, how would that change the way this is done?
starshipminivan (author) says: Feb 22, 2011. 4:51 PM
If you want to do it that way, you don't need to change much. Once the first half of the fudge is set, then the second half needs to be heated so it can be poured evenly over the first half and you can use the double boiler for that.

You might find that if you warm the sweetened condensed milk and pour it over the chocolate, it might do most of the initial melting of the chocolate for you. The white chocolate melts really easily.
scoochmaroo says: Feb 22, 2011. 11:15 AM
Genius! Of course I want a chocolate layer in the middle. I love chocolate + cayenne and chocolate + mint.
starshipminivan (author) says: Feb 22, 2011. 2:07 PM
Yes, the chocolate and pepper would be amazing!
