Introduction: Free Neodymium Magnets!!! Find and Remove - Recuperar Imanes De Neodimio

Picture of Free Neodymium Magnets!!! Find and Remove - Recuperar Imanes De Neodimio

Hi! (sorry for my english)
The neodymium magnet is a very strong magnet. You can take free (yes, free) from some old equipments: Old hard disk drive, and old cd or DVD writers/readers. Here I shown how find neodymium magnets from hard disc drive.
I need that for my Gopro...

Step 1: Old HDD - Disco Duro Viejo

Picture of Old HDD - Disco Duro Viejo

For an old Hard disc drive, you need disassembling that. With a torch or "star" screwdriver is enough. T8 in my hdd.
Remove the metal cover.
When you see the metal disk, you've removed all the covers.

Step 2: Find the Needle - Encontrar Las Agujas

At the bottom of the needles are neodymium magnets. You must remove the needle and look for similar objects (as shown).

Step 3: You Have a 2 Small (but Powerful) Neodymium Magnets!

Enjoy
Also will have a very technological mirror.

The neodymium magnets are nickel plated to prevent oxidation and eventual disintegration. If you prize them off their backing plates the nickel plate usually gets damaged. I have been resealing them with clear nail polish but I don't know if that works long term. Mostly they are fine still on the backing plate and easier to handle also.

If you put a drop or 2 of lighter fluid between the magnets and the backing plates it will soften the glue and you can prise them off without pulling off the nickel plating. Give the fluid a moment or 2 to work. Curl the backing plate a bit to allow the lighter fluid to penetrate.
