this is how to refill a basic cheap-o disposable fire extinguisher, and turn it into a super-soaker/flamethrower.

you will need:

-Plastic-head disposable fire extinguisher
-compresser w/ special nozzle (pic will be shown later)
-electrical tape and something to cut it with
-water
-someone to soak with this after your done building it!
-garden hose to clean it out with...sink will do
-trash can to dump old excess powder in

Step 1: Clean it out

G:\Instructables\Flamethrower\IMG_0021.JPG
spray any remaining powder in the extinguisher into a garbage can (watch your eyes - and nose....this stuff isnt good to breath).
take the garden hose and rinse it out, including the pipe and nozzle.....thise can be done be holding the lever down and spraying the hose into it.

it should look something like the picture below

gasoline also combusts under pressure, much less in fact, but it must be mixed with air.
pyrogreasemonkey says: Dec 30, 2008. 4:47 PM
also since there is oxygen being pumped in from the compressor it could fire back into it and explode, basically a pipe bomb
pyrogreasemonkey says: Oct 6, 2011. 7:12 PM
no fuel will auto detonate under pressure unless mixed with oxygen and compressed quickly enough that it heats up a lot. diesels work on the principle that when you compress a gas it heats up. in a diesel the air pressure goes from ambient to 500 psi in a fractoin of a secound, not enough time for it to cool so when the fuel is injected to the hot compressed air it ignites instantly. when you fill a flamable gas cylinder, first off there should be no oxygen in it, but the pressure should rise slowly so it doesnt heat up a lot.

i hope that was sarcasm.. he might die
C.D33 says: Jan 11, 2011. 5:30 AM
diesel combusts under pressure only with heat with the right fuel air mix, and with much higher pressure. Nitroglycerin would probably explode under the forces mentioned, as would acetlyene gas...
didgitalpunk says: Oct 6, 2011. 10:55 AM
aytylen gas bottles are filled with acetylene dissolved in water, itself disolved in rock.<>
m5industriesinc says: Mar 23, 2011. 1:10 PM
not acetylene...... they put much greater pressure on acetylene when they put it into cylinders...
snowluck2345 says: May 21, 2011. 6:36 PM
Are you sure, it dissolves pretty quickly so the pressure may be much less.
snowluck2345 says: May 29, 2011. 3:05 PM
acetylene is unstable, even at room pressure, it is dissolbed in acetone in acetylene tanks if i remember currectly and the tanks are aroudn 500psi, but the pressure is being exerted directly on the gas

Like wtf i didnt even write this i think ive been hacked :/ i dont even no what tht m,eans lolzys
mj10021 says: Dec 7, 2008. 5:59 AM
Could you fill it with butane or propane instead if gas
Thelonelysandwitch says: Apr 15, 2009. 1:41 PM
You can fill with anything that is flammable and wont explode under pressure (i.e. diesel, jet fuel, etc.)
s.lucero says: Aug 23, 2011. 8:07 AM
Any fuel will auto ignite at a certain pressure.
s.lucero says: Aug 23, 2011. 8:05 AM
It should be noted that ALL FUELS will auto ignite once a certain pressure is attained. Not just diesel.

Did someone say flamethrower?

Yeah, that's what happens when cyberbullies circumvent the law and attack someone for something they did 20 years ago and get their perfectly legitimate videos removed without any good reason...
godoggie says: Jan 2, 2011. 9:57 AM
Not sure if anyone knows, but if you take the head off of a fire extinguisher, is it 3/4" threads that attach the head assembly and the tank together?
MistaStokes says: Aug 14, 2010. 6:36 PM
It keeps telling me that the image is not found. Does the compressor fit in there nicely or do I need a special nozzle?
HaveFunWithIt says: Jun 27, 2010. 8:00 AM
Flamethrower! You have to be kidding me! This has to be the stupidest idea I have ever seen posted ANYWHERE. I wonder how many kids are going to set themselves on fire because of your post and the other extremely dangerous posts in the comments here. My God think before you post something like this. Please remove anything in your post related to a flamethrower and save a few kids from a life of pain and disfigurement or death.
Bobthewrecker says: Jul 23, 2010. 8:25 AM
Ha, I think it's kinda funny that your name is "HaveFunWithIt" but you discourage a child's ultimate playtoy: THE FLAMETHROWER!
HaveFunWithIt says: Jul 23, 2010. 10:44 AM
OK I guess in my old age I have a fear of seeing someone get horribly hurt. Maybe I am being over protective. You go ahead and make one. I assume you or someone close to you will know the number for 911. Have FunWithIt.........

stop fuel from leaking out and setting u on fire :)
EnigmaMax says: Mar 18, 2010. 8:32 PM
use kerosene instead.
Colonel88 says: Jan 19, 2010. 12:28 PM
The Fire Extinguisher is pressurized... So if you start to open it foam will fly out and it will/may explode...
audio8448 says: Aug 20, 2009. 1:40 PM
how do you unscrew the nozzle part from the tank
buffy says: Jun 1, 2008. 7:41 PM
do you think its possible to try this with a 5lbs dry chemical and the operating pressure for 5 lbs. is 195 psi do you think it can be succesfull at this operating pressure of 195 and do you think I could fill it almost to the top with water ??? and do you think i could use duct tape instead of electrical tape????
James (pseudo-geek) (author) says: Jun 1, 2008. 10:15 PM
duct tape would be fine. make sure its not cheap tape tho. don't fill it to the top, fill it 3/4 full. for a 195 psi container you'll be fine, just don't go over 100 psi or so.
Mulgen says: Aug 6, 2009. 12:53 AM
mine dosent have a white tip, but it does have a "barrel" looking thing that looks like it was attached on the end..i can see the scheme...do i cut that off?
