Introduction: Fire Pit

We wanted a small fire pit but still have a nice lawn. This small project is low maintenance and almost invisible when not in use.

Step 1: Tractor Rim

An old tractor rim was buried at grade level. the rolls in the steel serve as supports for the wooden cover. Optional, weld a socket to the outside of the rim before buried to receive a support for a corn pot.

Step 2: Wooden Cover

The wooden cover is made of 2"x2" stretchers and deck boards, pressure treated. The stretchers are cut to fit the inner diameter of the rim while the deck boards rest on the first roll of steel.

Step 3: Cutting the Grass

Because the wooden stretchers and deck boards transfer all the weight to the rim, the riding lawn mower can be driven over the cover without concern.
