The flash paper and flash cotton has to sit overnight because it is shipped wet per DOT requirements. When it is ready, pull a small 1/2" square of cotton and fluff it up. Then tear off a small approximately 5" square of flash paper and roll it up in a ball. Push the flash cotton in the rod and then the flash paper. I used the eraser end of a pencil to push it to the bottom of the rod. Careful not to push too hard or you could damage the glo-plug. Press the button on the switch and FIRE AWAY! Experimenting with different siezes of paper will result in different effects! Have fun, be safe!

Kipkay, I love the instructable. Have you ever seen ALW' Phantom of the Opera on stage? The first thing I think of when reading this is the staff from the graveyard scene where he shoots fireballs from the head of the staff. There are a few hitches, though. It calls for multiple shots, and I don't think I could have three inches of pipe inside. (I've been tinkering with the idea of making my own version off the prop) Is there a way to reduce the size and maybe be able to have different switches for different tubes to activate at one's leisure?

I love Phantom of the Opera and what I can tell by looking at pictures, one could fit three small. You would need a glow-plug for each tube, but you can use the same control unit for all of them. I would use a finger switch along with another switch for each tube for safety. By the way, I think The Phantom's staff was connected to a hose that fed it gas for the fireballs.
