Introduction: Fishing Lures

This will show you how to create your own plastic lures, mold them to the shape you want and impress your fishing buddies!

You will need...
InstaMorph - http://amzn.com/B003QKLJKQ
Hooks - I used circle hooks
DOA Glass Rattles - if you want your lure to make some noise.
Screw Eyes - 1/2" or smaller
pot to boil water

Step 1: Boil Water

First thing you need to do is start boiling some water for your instMorph.

Step 2: Heat Thing Up

Once your water is boiling pour some InstaMorph into the hot water. I use about 1/4 cup.

You should see the white pellets turn clear and start sticking together.

Take a spoon and push the loose pellets into the clump of pellets and pull the clump out of the water.

Step 3: Make Your Lure

Take the clump of instMorph and mash it together with a spoon a few times. You should be able to pick it up and start molding it with your hands after about 10 seconds. But be careful it's hot.

Take your hook and eye screw and place it into the mold. Also a rattler if you have one.

At this point you can keep shaping your lure until you like how it looks. If it becomes hard to mold just toss it back into the hot water to loosen things up a bit.

Step 4: Go Fishing!

Thats it your ready to go fishing! You can always come back a reshape your lures by tossing it into some boiling water again.

See the lure with arms is the picture, I call this one the baby squirrel. I bet fish love squirrel!

Have fun! and let me know what you come up with!

Yes you can paint them or use color dye. Yes its a hard plastic once cooled. The ones I created sink roughly 1ft every 3 seconds, that is with no extra weight. only hook, eye screw and rattler (rattler has air in it). If I were to fish deeper water I would add more weight.

If you're worried about the holding strength of the eye and hook, you could connect them with a high-strength line or wire leader, or skip the eye and use a leader directly from the hook.

Good idea, I give that a try on the next batch. Going to work in color also.

Pretty cool. How well does that plastic hold onto the hook and eye screw?

I've pulled hard on the lure and hooks and screw hold well. Its a very hard plastic once its dries. When I have a chance to put it to the real test i'll update this post ;)
