Fix, Splice, Repair Garden Hose

Fix, Splice, Repair Garden Hose

I needed a lot of garden hose so lay out a drip irrigation system.  So on junk day i searched around for used garden hose and found a lot of it most of what i needed i found in the trash.
So what you need is some pipe a hack saw, and two zip ties.
I just happen to have a long piece of scrap metal pipe, and it just fit perfectly inside a garden hose, tightly.  Cut off a pices about 3 inches long.  And twist it into one of the hose ends, then do the same with the other end.
Make sure its a tight fit and yourtwist them together as much as you can.   Then use the zip ties to tighten the hose around the metal pipe. And there you go!

For over 60 years I've been "rescueing" garden water hoses from curbside discard, but when I started Zip ties were not available.

Also, everywhere I've lived around the country, the water pressure has been from 45 to 60 psi, and as a result, expanded the hoses and "blew" an unclamped joint apart.  To correct this I've use the small "worm-drive" automotive type hose clamps which has worked great.  Except that the clamps "stick out" too much an "hang" on almost everything.

I'm gonna try this Zip tie approach and hope they will compress the hose pipe joint strongly enough to withstand the water pressure.

I don't know why I didn't think to try this when Zip ties became available, BUT... then again, I'm a creature of habit, and cleave to the old adage, "If it 'ain't' broke, don't fix it!"  The hose clamps worked for so many years, I just didn't think to try the tiesl.

I too have improvised a repair in the same manner except I used a bit of string and some constrictor knots instead of zipties.
