You can make many such lights in the floor.
I made two side-by-side as you can see.

They can also be mounted into walls and would look very nice there
too.

There may always be some fire risk when using the lamp for prolonged periods of time, but I have used mine for 2 days now and had it on for quite long each time and nothing has yet happened.
It doasnt get warmer than 43 C which is what i measured with a thermometer after 4 hours of having it on.

i think you may use leds to make it safer
white leds will do the same effect
also you will decrease the height of the box
you may not even need a box just the holes in the wood and glass
