I'm going to show you how to make origami ball, made from blossoms.

Step 1: Materials

IMG_0453.JPG

You need:

  • post-it notes
  • double sided tape or glue
  • scissors (for the tape)
  • and some time :D

Step 2: Folding

Take one post-it note and fold it in half to make a triangle (picture 1). Fold the dash line to make a diamond (picture 2). Return the left part in the previous position (picture 3). Fold the right part in half (picture 4). Make the same with the left part (picture 5). Then fold the whole model in half (picture 6). Fold in half again like in picture 7, but this time put the smaller triangle under the bigger (see picture 8 for the result). Fold in the dash line and again put the smaller triangle inside (picture 9). The model is ready.

Now make another 4 leaves in the same way.

Step 3: Connect the leaves

Now let's connect the leaves from the previous step to make a blossom.

Cut a piece from the double-sided tape and place it like is shown in the picture below. Then stick another model. The second picture is more detailed....Connect the other pieces the same way.

Press the corners a little for more realistic effect (pictures 3 & 4).

Make another 11 blossoms like this one.

Step 4: Connect the blossoms

Take 3 blossoms and stick them together. See the pictures below. Continue to add blossoms until they become 6. Now you should have haft of the ball ready. The same way make the other half.

Step 5: Ready

If only this could be made into a light... O.o
Maybe a few LEDs at the center of the ball? Hmm

Really nice. I wonder i I could spray paint them to make an ornament?
mmatthews8 says: Sep 1, 2011. 9:43 AM
I made a TON for my wedding, and used black spray paint. They turned out really pretty. Here's a pic to show you my finished product!
(Some people were asking about double sided tape? I tried it, and didn't have much luck. I ended up using small amounts of Elmer's Glue to stick it all together, and I had really good luck with it. :) )

hi i really loved this so i made one. However my question is when i glued them all together to form a ball i had a hard time gluing them together since one by one the petal would come off. I used double sided tapes by the way any tip on how i can stick them all together perfectly?
lrodie says: Aug 25, 2011. 1:05 AM
i used a hot glue gun because i didn't want to risk all of my hard work to fall apart... it stayed perfectly for me and when i was finished i put a large rhinestone in the middle of each flower!

.
I have a suggestion about your concern Kim020289 based from experience.
Put double-sided tape to both surfaces you re going to stick together. You can have good reinforcement when you joined 2 adhesives together :-D
I hope this will help

You're welcome :) It's looks good keep up the good work :)
slu6alka (author) says: Dec 3, 2010. 1:10 AM
Well it would be hard to stick them perfectly and I don't think that there are tips about that. There always will be holes between the petals and the blossoms. Even my model is not perfect. And about the first question you have to make 12 blossoms and every petal must stick with another two petals (from two different blossoms).

to make the flowers go to the video, the sketch explanation is wrong.. took me a while to figure out that... over all very easy and very cute!

Can you do this with normal A4 paper?
slu6alka (author) says: Jan 15, 2011. 5:42 AM
Yes, you can, but you have to cut it. It doesn't matter what the paper is, but it must be a square.
VeronicaJo says: Jan 9, 2011. 11:30 AM
It's alot easier to do if you make the sticky part of the notes stick to itself.

Great kusudama instructable. seen it before, but never saw good instructions. I think Ill make this one....
slu6alka (author) says: Dec 7, 2010. 7:27 AM
I'm glad you like it...oh and thanks for reminding me that this is kusudama, not origami
Beadazzlesalas says: Dec 5, 2010. 1:36 PM
Hey that is a beautiful rose you've made here. In Origami though no glue or paste or anyother sticky stuff is used,it's all done with paper only as you can find on this site the best in the world. Check it out it's awesome and has instructions forfolding paper flowers. http://www.oriland.com/index.asp. I'm going to give this a try and see how mine turns out as it looks like a bunch of fun to do.
slu6alka (author) says: Dec 7, 2010. 7:26 AM
I know that in origami there is no glue...actually it is kusudama, thanks Speedmite for the reminding...Anyways thank you for sharing the site, I've seen it before, it's good :)
deladybex says: Dec 5, 2010. 10:37 PM

Ditto on the diagrams, excellent instructable. I'm trying it with mini-post-its (all I have); the gluing is tricky with those little ones : )
slu6alka (author) says: Dec 3, 2010. 1:11 AM
Thanks...I'll be happy to see the result :)
paulanorma says: Dec 2, 2010. 6:41 AM

Beauty! Very much it was pleasant, as I want.

rlawrence says: Dec 1, 2010. 10:37 PM
I am sure this is the exact same one that is featured in the Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. except theres used professional paper instead of post it notes.
