Like a lot of people I have always been a big fan of the Back to The Future franchise. I have always dream with having a flying Delorean that travels in time but that not being possible (yet) i went with the best next thing. I made an RC flying Delorean to scale made out of paper. What makes this baby fly is a quadrotor donated by my friend and the car is 12" wide 30" long and 9" high. I tried to do as many details as possible the entire interior illuminates all the buttons and the dash and the Flux capacitor. The needle in the speedometer also moves to to 88mph. I am so proud of this project and it was extremely time consuming but the final result was worth it. I design all the parts that i wanted to illuminate in the computer and the printed the in a transparency.

Guys let me know if you want me to publish a step by step instructable and ill get it done as soon as possible.

Video of the dash showing how the needle moves:

This is the video showing the lights and how everything lights up:

This is a video of the Delorean flying at night, i couldn't get it to stop spinning and had to edit because i crashed a couple times :)

This are the original plans for the Delorean.
http://www.instructables.com/files/orig/F18/BY2F/H2WEW4SP/F18BY2FH2WEW4SP.pdf
This plans are for a 1:20 scale, I printed the pages and the took them to kinkos and had them print at 400% the size.
I'm going to add a video hopefully tomorrow so you guys can see it in action and the lights.

Thank you very much to Claudio Dias at http://paperinside.com

Please vote for me if you guys like my project. Please ask questions if you have any and ill make the best to answer as soon as possible.

To stop it spinning, reverse the direction on two of the fans opposite each other. (obviously switching the fans around so they still provide lift)

This is explained in someone's law of motion or something. (sorry for no help here)

You could try fans in the wheel wells to help stabilization. Other than that, this is insane. I actually just finished watching the trilogy a few hours ago. This is an awesome project and to see a step-by-step would be amazing. Very impressive detailing. And all with paper, just amazing.

Very impressive, how long did this take to build?

Pam.

the question is can it hit 88mph?
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to wiidude345Jul 4, 2012. 4:13 PM
Of-course, check out how the needle moves video!!!

A flying Delorean in 2012?! Doesn't this cause some sort of space-time problem where we'll skew off into some tangent future because we weren't supposed to see a flying Delorean until 2015?
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to browfurdJul 4, 2012. 4:27 PM
yeah but that is for a life size model this is just my prototype for it ;)
askjerry says: Jun 21, 2012. 10:26 PM
Make it BIGGER... fly it down the street... then wait for all the UFO reports.
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to askjerryJul 4, 2012. 4:27 PM
YESSS!!, this is actually my prototype, im working on a life size model, i should finish by 2015 ;)
monkeys98 says: Jun 11, 2012. 6:02 PM
its. amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was planning on doing just an rc car similar to this. this is definitely my next project.
it would be cool if the rotors could flip around and become wheels :)
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to monkeys98Jul 4, 2012. 4:24 PM
thank you so much, it will be awesome if you can figure how to do that.
zack247 says: Jun 11, 2012. 6:39 PM
wow, that is AWESOME!
is there a way to make covers or guards for the blades that look like the wheels?

either way, words cannot describe the awesomeness.
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to zack247Jul 4, 2012. 4:23 PM
THANKSSS, yes i did it at the beginning but i had to take them out when i fly it so i just took them out for good.

(I'm suprised no one made a model quadrotor helicarrier from the Avengers movie yet...)
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to KlappstuhlJul 4, 2012. 4:22 PM
ummmm !!!!! (brain thinking how to make one right now)
Spokehedz says: Jun 14, 2012. 8:54 AM
It was spinning because one of your trims was off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgdMEqWRGWY - Is how to program quad controllers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9MNRT19yp4 - and then this is how to connect it and the other stuff.

I don't mean to put down your effort, but if it's a flying DeLorean time machine, where's Mr. Fusion? It looks like you have the Plutonium powered model. Inaccurate.
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to TimberWolf5871Jul 4, 2012. 4:15 PM
Actually i ordered the Mr. Fusion to put it on but they told me its on back-order until January 2015 so ill have to wait for now...
hyookami in reply to TimberWolf5871Jun 15, 2012. 10:22 PM
At first i was like "Wath a whinny nerd, whats the innacuracy?"
then i saw the photos again... Totally true.
But maybe (im guessing, obviously) the delorean first got a DIY flying adaptation from Doc Brown, and only AFTER (in a related incident, because, you know, flying cars NEED to be nuclear) it got MR. Fusion. This is a delorean at a point of time where it hadnot have gotten a Mr Fusion to power the flying thingy,
wdwdash in reply to hyookamiJul 4, 2012. 7:14 PM
I theoretically disagree, to assume repulsorlift technology could exist on gasoline (or even diesel) combustion is fairly illogical. The required matter energy for this type of technology is far beyond petroleum.
hyookami in reply to wdwdashJul 6, 2012. 11:51 PM
Thats the case with doc Brown. He's always trying to go beyond the current technology. Maybe I should add to my scenarium that this flying adaptation is running on the nuclear reactor the delorian already has installed
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to hyookamiJul 4, 2012. 4:17 PM
exactly, it will get a Mr Fusion but its in back-order until 2015 at Mrfusion.com ( your one stop for all your nuclear needs)
wdwdash in reply to TimberWolf5871Jun 14, 2012. 3:16 PM
Mr Fusion was a plot crutch!;)
Nelson_Yepez (author) in reply to wdwdashJul 4, 2012. 4:25 PM
lol
hyookami in reply to wdwdashJun 15, 2012. 10:23 PM
Youre just jelaus cos we dont have MrFusion to power our homes yet.
roystonlodge in reply to hyookamiJun 17, 2012. 6:04 AM
Maybe you don't ...
