The safest way to attach the hitch to the bike is through a fork, not having to worry about any obstacles in the curves (there are one or more instructables about this). The fork I made of iron pipe for electrical installations of 5"/8 semi thick walls. I cut a piece slightly longer than I needed, I filled it with dry sand and bent U like. It flattened a little, but in a controlled manner.
In the middle of the U soldered a 5"/16 screw that holds the washer hitch. At arm holes where U enters the rear of the bike I reinforced with thick washers welded. To ensure the fork to the axis I used two old steel cones that were left over from step 2 me, which I soldered two separate pieces of iron rod to become (semi) butterflies.
