Introduction: Foods of Skyrim: Sweet Rolls

Sweet Rolls for the Dragon Born and friends, from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, following as close to the in game recipes as possible.  Warning, abuse of moon sugar can cause tooth decay. Use at your own risk!

Sweet Rolls

1/2 tsp from Salt Pile
1/4 cup from Jug of Milk
2 cups from Sack of Flour
2 sticks (1 cup) of Butter
5 Chicken's Eggs
1 1/2  tsp Extract from Vanilla Plant
1 2/3  cups Moon Sugar (aka granulated sugar)
(you can add in 1 tsp of baking powder to assist in rising, but if you whip the butter and eggs enough, you won't need it)

For the glaze:
4 TB Butter
2 TB from Jug of Milk
2 cups Powdered Moon Sugar (aka confectioner's sugar)
1 tsp Extract from Vanilla Plant

Sweet roll pan (mini bundt pan)

My kids and I found a "bundt-ette" pan in a little antique shop, a necessary component to have them look right. Once my alchemy skill was high enough and we got the Hearthfire DLC installed, the recipe came out fantastically. I got +25 XP and my kids loved them.

Oh. My. Goodness. These are amazing! They were so easy to make and so yummy, too. I have celiac disease, so Instead of flour, I used Cup4Cup which is a gluten free flour made to be used in "regular" recipes. Alright. I'm off to go slay another dragon.

I am getting ready to make this now, I used salted margerine instead and I used a pinch of salt, I was afraid it'd be too salty or too sweet, I'll tell you how it goes.
They are a little blurry in the pics but they came out great, will taste them in a moment. Wonderfull, this is a great recipe!

Can you use a mini donut pan? It looks similar to a mini bunt pan but is not as deep

author
A LlamaM (author)Nyxers2016-03-30

yes, but they won't have as much room to rise. You would need to cook them for a shorter time. I'd say about 10 minutes (maybe even less depending on how shallow the donut pan is) and keep an eye on them from there.

I was born as a Sweetroll and eaten by Ulfric Stormcloak. I was later resurrected by Akatosh as the dragonborn to defeat Alduin and his threat of tyranny, and went on to gain ultimate power to take revenge on the one who harmed my glaze.

I am with the Imperials! :D

Halt! You and your family have comitted crimes against Skyrim and her people, what do you say in your defence?!

author
srichter2 (author)2015-04-04

Made a batch for the family and they loved it! They cane out a lot more dense than expected but were still delicious. For the glaze I altered it a bit by squeezing a lemon in place of the milk and forgot the vanilla all together. Still awesome!

I'm on a Skyrim kick again, I swear this game is addicting lol, It's like a good movie you want to watch over and over again, but a video game that you play over and over again. I would love to try these sweet rolls!! I had me a salmon/baked potato meal tonight inspired by Skryim no doubt, (yea I'm a nerd lol.) I can't help but get cravings for fish, baked potatoes, mead, and stuff like that from the game as I'm playing (I actually had real mead before too!!).I can't cook really though unfortunately. But maybe I'll learn how to cook these foods so I can enjoy these foods from my favorite game :).

Can I make this recipe, but put it all in one normal bundt pan? It looks very good and I would like to try it, but I don't have mini bundt pans. Thanks :)

Yes, it should be fine. You will just have to adjust the baking time!

Very good! I'm going to personally try to tweak it just a bit as it was a little eggy (but not in a bad way). I found that for the glaze you can make it a frosting like in the picture by using real butter and a big bowl to disperse the temperature better. If you want a glaze use margarine and a smaller bowl (like a cereal bowl) to mix. I found that the melted butter reacts with the cold milk to make it chunkier and thicker even before adding the other ingredients and will give you frosting, then whip up the rest of the other ingredients with a whisk as you add them (had to frost with a plastic bag with a hole and squeeze it out on roll). If however you want the glaze, like I said, the small bowl and margarine with a spoon worked best for me and it's easier to drizzle (if too runny then I cooled in fridge until thicker and wait until rolls cool completely or else will melt in a minute off the roll and become almost see through and not white). Made these for my brother and will make them again, delicious!

Could I take out the sugar and make them into rolls for dinner? Or could I add corn and lessen the sugar and make them into Corn bread rolls? What do you guys think?

When you say 2 sticks of butter, what mass is that? In Britain sticks of butter vary by company...

author

1 stick = 1/2 cup
2 sticks = 1 cup

Thanks :)

Just finished making a batch. Didn't have a bundt pan so I used a cupcake pan. The bottoms stuck just a touch and the tops ripped off but they did so in a perfectly flat mannor so it looked like I planned it that way, I just got double the deliciousness!

This was a wonderful recipe, I will be keeping this one forever :D

These look tasty. Just a shame they're not the same scale and size as the ones the game. Not that they need to be, as it would be overkill, but the ones in the game are almost as big as one's face. Also, anyone notice that the sweet rolls are a nod to Fallout 3? My wife pointed it out to me. At the beginning of Fallout 3, your sweet roll is stolen at your birthday party party. Hence the origin of "What's the matter, did someone steal your sweet roll?" that you here throughout the game.

author

It'd be hard to get something that big to bake consistently! As well as probably giving you a major stomach ache from all that sugar. I was just playing Fallout 3 a few days ago and noticed the reference!

author

I'm uncertain about the inconsistent baking on a larger one. Scale up the amount of ingredients and use a large (or whatever size you prefer) bundt cake pan.

author

The recipe would be fine in a regular bundt pan, the problem is the sweet rolls in the game are tall, not wide. About the size of a fist, but as tall as someone's face. They could be made that size theoretically, but it'd be hard not to over bake the shallow parts and actually pull them out of a pan that deep.

That question is actually one of the questions you're asked at the beginning of Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

author
combatboots7 (author)2013-04-07

Being as both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls game series are from Bethesda, you may have to look back even further than Morrowind to find the original reference.
