Introduction: Four Bulb Lamp in a Girl Genius Style...

Greetings all.
A four bulb dimmable lamp with voltmeter and various entertaining features. The style inspired by the inesmiable professors Foglio of Transylvania Polygnostic.  http://www.girlgeniusonline.com

The dimmer is altered by the gate valve wheel, and the resulting output shown on the voltmeter. Surprisingly even here in the Uk the dimmer never puts out more than about 100 volts.

The body of the lamp is made from 15mm and 22mm copper heating pipe, soldered together with a blowlamp and earthed for safety. The gate valve takes 22mm pipe but was still not large enough to hold the potentiometer from the dimmer so the interior had to be machined out quite a bit. Not a task for the faint hearted.

Routing the wires through the pipework was a definite challenge, accomplished by tying a steel nut to a piece of very strong thread and then guiding it down the desired pipes with a powerful magnet. Wires were then tied to the thread and pulled through.

The dimmer potentiometer was de-soldered from its circuit board, and after some struggle, mounted inside the gate valve body. This required routing 5 wires from the gate valve through pipework into the voltmeter box where the dimmer board was housed.

The various feature LEDs are driven by  hacked LED night lights, designed to run a handfull of LEDs straight from the mains.
Two were needed in the end to give enough power for all the lights.
The blue tubes on the front face are 20mm acrylic tube, sanded on the inside and each lit by two 10mm blue LEDs, the power indicator is a 10mm yellow LED

The side face has three 3mm UV LEDs for the "working" tubes and one 3mm red led for the "blown" tube.
The wire coils inside the tubes are just there for effect.
