Step 4Inkscape

Inkscape
This is actually a replacement for Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphics editor. Most image editors programs like Photoshop are raster graphics and is made of pixels, so as you zoom in, the image becomes pixelated. Vector graphics are made of points, line, curves, and polygons, which are all based on mathematic equations. So as you zoom in, they still retain the same quality and don't blur. To learn more, check out Wikipedia.

Inkscape is a pretty easy to learn program. However, the shortcuts are different from Illustrator, so if you are used to Illustrator, prepare to get used to it.

You have all the basic tools like zoom, rectangles, circles, stars, polygons, spirals, free-hand pencil, curves, calligraphic lines, text, and gradients. You also have quite a few effects.

You can export to all the common file types like *.pdf and *.svg.

To learn more and download the program, go to Inkscape.

Inkscape is great for 2D illustrations and diagrams, if you learn how to use it. I think a lot of the diagrams that you see on various web pages that people tried and failed to do with MS paint would look a lot better if more people knew how to do vector graphics.
