Introduction: "Free" DvD to IPod

In this instructable i will teach you how to convert any DVD movie or movie on to your ipod for 100% FREE OF CHARGE

Step 1: What You Need

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE 2 PROGRAMS YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS:

- DVD Decrypter ~ http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/ Once at this site click on "SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe" to download. Download it and install.

- Videora iPod Converter ~ http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/download.php

NOTE: Videora iPod Converter V 0.91 is the preffered version to use but not to worry the newer versions should work fine. . .

ATTENTION : DO NOT WORRY ABOUT DOWNLOADING THE PROGRAMS THEY ARE TRUSTED SOFTWARE.

Step 2: Start

Put the DVD you want to convert into your DVD-ROM drive and start DVD Decrypter. The disc should eventually be
recognized and you should get a screen like the one below.

Notice DVD Decrypter automatically picks the longest
program which is usually the movie(NOTE: if it does not select the longest file please select the longest just to make shure you get the whole movie).

If you don't have enough free space at the Default destination, you can change the destination by clicking the little yellow folder icon and choosing a new destination.

Step 3: IFO Mode

Make sure you are in IFO mode by pressing "i" or checking under the Mode menu.

Step 4: Stream Processing

Go to the Stream Processing tab and select Enable Stream Processing.

Note: You might have other video and audio options on your DVD. This screen is where you pick which audio and video
track you want. Usually the default is a good choice but if you end up with the wrong video or audio channel (such as the
director's commentary or a foreign language) experiment with other selections in this window.

Step 5: No File Splitting

We need to make sure we end up with one big file containing the entire movie. Go to Tools -> Settings and click on the
IFO Mode tab. Set "Flie Splitting" to none and hit OK.

Step 6: Let It Rip

Click the "DVD to Hard Drive" Rip button and wait for it to finish. When you are done you will hopefully have one big file
ending in ".VOB" wherever "Destination" is set. (above the rip button)

Keep in mind, ripping is fairly hard on DVD drives. If your rip seems to get stuck, try using another computer with a newer
DVD drive. Also, scratched or dirty DVDs don't rip well and also cause the DVD drive to constantly re-read parts of the
disk wearing the drive out. Be aware of that as you rip. Newer drives and perfect DVDs make great rips.

Step 7: ALMOST THERE JUST ONE MORE THING BEFORE YOU START CONVERTING

In this DEMO i will be using an older version of VIDEORA, if you have the newest version it is ok and more user friendly, it comes with instructions and step by step help!

BELOW ARE THE IMAGES OF THE NEW AND OLD VERSIONS

Step 8: Run Videora IPod Converter

RUN THE CONVERTER

Step 9: Convert

Click the Convert tab on the left.

Step 10: Transcode New Video

Click Transcode New Video and find the big VOB file DVD Decrypter created for you. (Hint: look for it in a place like
"C:\DVD_NAME_HERE\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_01.VOB")

Step 11: Output Videos To...

Click the Setup tab on the left and define where you want the finished product to end up.

Step 12: Quality Profile

Give your video a Title and pick the Quality Profile MPEG-4/320x240/768kbps Stereo/128kbps. (others will work as well,
experiment to find the best choice) Then click Start to begin encoding.

Step 13: Then Wait

Once the movie file is done converting import it into itunes and ENJOY!

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING WITH THE NEW OR EVEN OLD VERSION OF VIDEORA PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL HELP YOU ! !

The program was out dated and no longer work for the latest dvd movies. I suggest to have a try on iMoresoft Video Converter Ultimate. It converts your DVDs for personal use to any video format that suits your portable device. Or, vice versa, burn your favorite homemade videos into personalized DVDs and enjoy them on the big screen!

You don't have to tell it to output it to one file. You can rip the files individually and then (of all things) join them together in command line Using this command: copy /b "a.vob" + "b.vob" "c.vob" You can also do it with more than two files.

Okay, so I've been stuck @ 99% for over an hour now...it was speedy to get to the 99% (maybe 30 min tops) but I'm starting to get the feeling it's not gonna hit 100%. I raised the CPU usage to above normal for 1/2 hour in hopes that would help it finish up..but alas it was all for nothing. So I brought it down to just below normal...time elapsed: 1 hr, 52 min...any thoughts? I know how these progs can get hung up, ive been using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink for a few years but this is just nuts.

this had happened to me also, it depends on what kind of DVD you are converting this will normal happen with home made DVD'S or recorded DVD'S (the use of a DVD recorder attached to your television recording shows etc.) The bottom line is do not worry about it if all works in the end. This has happened to me as I have made many home videos, all that I do is leave my computer ON overnight and when I get back in the morning my movies are done. This is a great way to get those movies done so your not waiting around for hours!!! May I also suggest if you do this that you Queue other movies if you have more than one and it may go quicker and you will have more movies finished. Another thing is that the amount of time that your Movie takes to convert Depends on how high you put the quality of the sound and video. HINT: after your done check the "Shutdown after Conversion Is Complete" box to prevent hassles. RICKICK,

never mind, i decided to avoid any such hassle and am downloading Videora anyways. but for future references, again, why Videora? is it because of the output format of the Ripper? because i can't say i've heard of .Vow before. Thanks again. 22% ! and in a couple minutes, too!

author

Videora because it may take some time but it gets the job done properly when you know how to use it. Oher programs are also not free of charge.

author
rickick made it! (author)rickick2008-07-05

Importing is still the best way to make shure

author
rickick made it! (author)rickick2008-07-05

You import it into itunes and then Drag it onto your ipod. If this does not work there may have been a pro blem with the conversion and the file may have been corrupted or it could be how old the version of you itunes is.

author
Bartboy made it! (author)Bartboy2008-06-20
