Introduction: Fun()nion Bag (1 Hour Project)

About: I am married with two children. Spring, summer, and fall are my very favorite times of the year. I enjoy working in the yard, sewing, cooking, quilting, gardening, and creating. I do this to keep my sanity.

Here is a fun()nion bag. It is made from fine quality plastic onion bags and has been lined with print and solid fabric. The handles are printed cloth lined with fashionable grocery bags. This exquisite bag has many uses. Fill it with some lovely paper, a ribbon, and  add a gift. The receiver will be delighted and amazed at your creativity. The size is perfect for a lunch sack. This bag is just what you need for small crafting projects you can work on away from home. A fabulous shopping bag.

This project takes about one hour.

I simply made 2 bags.

One lining bag and one printed bag.

I put the lining bag inside the printed bag and placed (them) inside the onion bag and folded over 1/4 inch hem and folded it again about 1 1/2 inches and sewed in the finished hem at the opening.

The onion bag was the pattern.

I added seam allowances at the sides and added a couple of inches at the top before I cut 4 layers of fabric.

Braided 3 plastic grocery bags together to form the handle support.

Cut a strip of fabric doubled to form a pillowcase and sewed the handle support at one end. I made a seam sewing one edge slightly larger than the handle support and turned the fabric right side out.

Turned down the end for a nice finished look.

The handle is sewn at both ends of the bag on the back side of the seams on the inside of the bag.

The bag is complete and ready to use.

I hope you enjoy making this.
