Make your laptop nice and fuzzy like a stuffed animal in a few minutes.

Fake fur is the most wonderful thing ever on a computer. I tried this once with adhesive-backed black velvet but I like the fur even better. Also it is not permanent. The fur should probably stay put during general use but later you can pull off the fur and glue and no one will ever know your furry secret.

This project is inspired by this amazing teddybear computer and HalcyonPink's awesome Fur Bike! that I love so much.

I didn't fur the bottom of the computer for fear of overheating. Ideally it would be great to have fur all over every surface including the keyboard but we'll have to start with the back of the screen for now.

While you're here feel free to take a look at Surfing the Waste the musical-documentary about dumpster diving I made with my friends back in university.

Remember to rate this instructable and share your thoughts in the comments section :)

Las Manualidades.com has done up a spanish version of this.

I made it!

Using your method, but not directly glued on the lid (a layer of masking tape in between).

Thanks! This awesome challenge motivated me to finish many of the things that I started once (starting is easier than finishing!). I enjoy making new things, as well as making cool things that others post!

The masking tape I used seems to be good enough. Let's see in some years... IMHO electrical tape would not be as good as masking tape, because the hot glue would not adhere so well.

Your very cool instructable inspired me for a slightly different approach.

Thanks a lot!

I'll say something. I did this a few years ago to my hp laptop, and it burnt out due to the fur. It would come off in bits and pieces, and get stuck in the fan, causing it to burn out. My laptop overheated, and my motherboard essentially melted.
Be very very VERY careful to get some higher grade faux fur for this project.

Really cute. Considered decoupaging my laptop. Question:
Does the fur create excess static that might harm your computer?

eehm how about using an elastic cord instead of glowing on your laptop??
You just could pull it over when you want to and wash it from time to time.

I'm not saying i'll do this to my laptop but i guess it would be better if you pasted the furry stuff on a plastic hard cover that goes on the laptop so you could remove it just incase.

I got myself a suede laptop skin from those guys in the link and it's really cool, basically glues on like a normal laptop skin but I like it better than the instructable cause it's really thin and so my laptop still fits in its perfectskin.

it's not a good idea to wrap it around the edges because it will certainly snag onto things. It looks good enough just on top, i think better than if it were wrapped. too lazy to take a photo of it now.

price is a bit high indeed but it really is really cool. and soft...

There is no way I would hot glue fur to my laptop!  What about getting a laptop skin with zebra print or another animal for about $10? http://sticviews.com  That's what I have on my laptop!

awesome my only concern ins how to get it off (in case i wanna change colours)  lol is ther a way to make this removable
Jan 12, 2010. 7:38 PMDr.Paj says:
I was thinking Velcro strips around the edges of the laptop case along with Velcro sewn onto the back of the furs, so you could change them out quick and easy, but you would have to really hot glue the Velcro to the laptop case so it wouldn't rip off when you tried to change out the fur.

I am not brave enough to do this on my shiny aluminum 13" Macbook Pro...
