These fuzzy chalk bags are all constructed basically the same. The instructions will detail mostly the red elmo bag, but there will be short instructions for creating the detail on the other 3 at the end as well.

These were created as chalk bags but I have added a zipper and long purse straps (instead of the chalk bag belt loop) to create purses for my little nieces.

Step 1: Bag Bottom

With size H hook and Hilos la Espiga nylon thread, CH 17.

Row 1: SC in the 2nd CH from hook, and SC to the end. CH 1 and turn. (16 sc total)

Row 2 - 8: Repeat Row 1 6 more times. Finish off.

I checked the bag bottom against my regular chalk bag to verify correct size.

Step 2: Bag Body

The body will be crocheted in the round. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round. To crochet the body, 1 skein of fun fur will be held together with one skein of Royal Fashion Crochet Thread (RFCT) and be treated as 'one' thread. The crochet thread will add some strength to the fun fur.

Slip stitch the yarn combination (FUR + RFCT) to the beginning of the nylon thread. Chain one and SC in the first SC of the nylon thread.

Row 1: SC 16 across to top, SC 6 down the left, SC 16 across the bottom, SC 6 up the right. Do not turn (44 SC total).

Row 2: SC 44. Do not turn, continue in the round.

Repeat Row 1 until it measures about 4 inches.

I verified the size against my regular chalk bag.

Step 3: Add Front Pocket (optional)

For this bag style, I added a pocket. Some of the other bag styles do not have a pocket and I skip this step.

Flatten the bag and locate the approximate middle of the front. Mark 4 stitches on either side of the middle so that 9 stitches are marked (including the middle stitch).

SC around the bag as normal until you reach the first marked stitch. Instead of SC in these stitches, CH 9 instead and skip the stiches. SC in the 10th stitch and SC to the end as normal.

SC around the bag until the CH 9 space is reached. Crochet 9 SC in the CH 9 space. SC to the end as normal.

Step 4: Create Side Hole for the Cord

Determine which side of the bag to put the cord (for left handed or right handed person).

For my bag, I placed the cord on the left side. If the cord is to be on the right side, SC around until the right side is reached.

SC about 17 stitches until the side is reached. Instead of stitch SC, CH 3 instead. SC in the 4 stitch. SC around as normal.

SC around until the CH3 space is reached. Stitch 3 SC in the CH 3 space and SC around.

SC around as normal for 1 to 2 more rows then finish off.

Step 5: Top Border

Attach the nylon thread, CH 1 and SC around (44 stitches total).

Complete 3 more rows of the black thread and finish off.

Step 6: Add a Face Over the Pocket (Optional - If Pocket Was Created)

If a pocket was created, then follow this step to create the face. If no pocket was created, then proceed to Step 7.

Row 1: Join the yarn combo (FUR + RFCT) to one end of the 9 sc hole created in step 3. CH 1 and SC 9 across. CH 1 and turn. (9 SC total)

Row 2: 2 SC in the first SC. SC 7 across. 2 SC in the last SC. CH1 and turn (11 SC total).

Row 3: 2 SC in the first SC. SC 9 across. 2 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (13 SC total).

Row 3: 13 SC across. CH 1 and turn

Row 4 - 11: Repeat Row 3 8 more times.

Row 12: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 SC by inserting hook in first sc and yarn over and pull yarn through the stitch. Insert hook through next stitch and yarn over and pull yarn through stitch. Yarn over and pull yarn through all 3 stitches on the hook. SC 9 across. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 SC. CH 1 and turn (11 sc total).

Row 13: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. SC 7 across. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 sc. CH1 and turn (9 SC total)

Row 14: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. SC 5 across. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 sc. CH1 and turn (7 SC total)

Row 15: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. SC 3 across. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 sc. CH1 and turn (5 SC total)

Row 16: SC 5 across. Finish off.

Step 7: Eyes

Using white worsted weight yarn and size F hook, CH 4 and join yarn to first CH. CH 1. Do not turn.

Crochet the following in the round.

Row 1: Insert yarn through the middle of this circle and SC 4. Join to 1st SC. CH 1. (4 SC total)

Row 2: Stitch 2 SC in each SC around. Join to 1st SC. CH 1. (8 SC total)

Row 3: 2 SC in the first SC. 1 SC in the next SC. *2 SC in the next SC. 1 SC in the next sc**. Repeat from * to ** until end. Join to 1st SC. (12 SC total). Finish off.

Repeat for 2nd eye.

Step 8: Mouth

Using black worsted weight yarn and size F hook, CH 5. SC in 2nd chain from hook and SC across. CH 1 and turn (4 SC total).

Row 1: Stitch 3 SC in the 1st SC, 1 SC in the next 2 stitches, 3 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (8 SC total).

Row 2: Stitch 2 SC in the 1st SC, 1 SC in the next 6 stitches, 2 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (10 SC total).

Row 3: Stitch 2 SC in the 1st SC, 1 SC in the next 8 stitches, 2 SC in the last SC. CH 3 at the end and finish off. Attach yarn to other side and CH 3 and finish off. (12 SC total plus 3 chains at either end.)

With 1 strand of just the fuzzy yarn, attach it to the CH 3 of right side of the mouth. CH1 SC in each of the 3 chains, evenly SC over top of mouth, 3 SC over top of CH 3, 3 SC on bottom of CH 3, evenly SC over bottom of mouth, 3 SC on bottom of CH 3 and connect to 1st SC and finish off.

Step 9: Nose

Using mustard worsted weight and size F hook, CH 5. SC in the 2nd change from hook and SC across. CH 1 and turn (4 SC total).

Row 1: Stitch 2 SC in the 1st SC. 1 SC in the next 2 stitches. 2 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (6 SC total)

Row 2: Stitch 2 SC in the 1st SC. 1SC in the next 4 stitches. 2 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (8 SC total)

Row 3: Stitch 2 SC in the 1st SC. 1SC in the next 6 stitches. 2 SC in the last SC. CH 1 and turn (10 SC total)

Row 4: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. 1 SC in next 8. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 sc. CH1 and turn (10 SC total)

Row 5: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. 1 SC in next 6. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 sc. CH1 and turn (8 SC total)

Row 6: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 3 sc. 1 SC in next 2. Decrease single crochet in the last 3 sc. CH1 and turn (4 SC total)

Row 7: Decrease single crochet in the 1st 2 sc. Decrease single crochet in the last 2 SC (2 SC total)

Step 10: Pupil

Using black worsted weight, CH 2 and join to 1st CH.

CH 1 and SC 4 through the middle. Finish off. Repeat for the 2nd one.

Step 11: Sew Facial Features

Sew eyes, nose and mouth to front of bag.

Step 12: Belt Loop Tab

Flatten bag and find middle of the back of the bag. Mark 4 stitches on either side of the bag for total of 9 stitches marked.

Attach nylon thread to the 1st marked stitch on the right. CH 1 and SC 9 across. CH 1 and turn (9 SC total).

Row 1: SC 9 across. CH 1 and turn (9 SC total).

Repeat row 1 until it measures about 4 inches. Finish off and leave long tail for attaching to bag.

Sew the end of the tab to the bag, about 1 inch below from the top.

Step 13: Chalk Bag Lining

I have very little sewing ability, unfortunately. For the chalk back lining, I referred to this site to build a better chalk bag.

I followed the instructions for the lining only.

Place the lining inside the chalk bag with the right side facing inside (and seams facing outside). The bag created from the blog had 2 parts. The inner strip will attach to the outer strip to house the cord.

Pin the outer part of the lining to the bag and sew in place.

Punch a small hole in the lining (same area as the hole created on the fuzzy bag) and added a grommet for support.

Thread a cord through the bag hole and around the bag and trimmed the excess. Fold over the inner lining of the bag and sew it to the fuzzy bag (covering the cord). When sewing, make sure to not accidentally sew the cord.

Add a cord stopper at the end and done!

Step 14: Additional Bag Info

Bag body, eyes, and pupil followed same instructions as Elmo.

Oscar: For the Oscar bag, hold 2 strands of brown fun fur and chain to the desired length for the unibrow. The mouth was created by chaining black worsted weight yarn to the desired length. A pocket was created and the facial features were sewed on to the pocket covering..

Jack: The face was created using single crochet stitch in the round to the desired size. I thread black worsted weight yarn and stitched the mouth and nose. No pocket created.

Hello Kitty: I used a kitty pattern from the internet for the face. I added a pink bow and sewed the eyes and nose. The Hello Kitty face was added as a pocket cover similar to Elmo.
