Thankfully threaded rod is sold in a variety of lengths so all you have to do is pick the size or sizes you want. It is inexpensive, too. Twist on a nut on one side of the rod so that you can string the beads on and they won't fall off. Make sure to have enough exposed rod to stick into the ground and it will be able to hold up the weight of the beads. The cabinet pull gets twisted on the top when you are finished. Make sure to tighten up the nut when you are done so the beads are all nice and snug.

Can you tell me what the hole size is on the beads you're using? All the beads I've purchased are too small. Thank you

Do an Ebay search for Murano Glass European Bracelet beads, bulk or wholesale. There are tons and tons of them on Ebay. You can also do acrylic European Bracelet beads and they are much less expensive. Make sure the ones you are buying say fit European charm bracelets!!! Hope this helps.

I live in Wisconsin too, but am having trouble finding rods in various sizes and crystal knows do you remember which stores you found them? Thank you- this is a great idea!!

Hi. I'm in Southern Wisconsin. We have lived here for 13 years and really like it. I got the threaded rod at Menard's. Lowe's and Home Depot carry it as well. These same stores also sell crystal knobs. They are actually acrylic and have held up beautifully in our ever-changing weather =)

I love that you you have the cat in some of your photos ... it adds such a touch of whimsy. I can't wait to try making these.

He is just so nosey and has to be involved in everything =)

I think it would be a good idea to use thick knitting needles as they already have atop and you wouldn't have to buy top knobs.Maybe use medicine bottle caps and form painted .flowers as a topper,I found pony beads that turn color from white to several colors when put in the sun.,as you see I can't wait to make these, wish me luck and thanks sweety.

Great idea. Would love to see one you make =)

Awesome project!!! kid friendly and beautiful in a planter indoors or out!

Thank you =)

These are very beautiful and enchanting. I'd really like to make them. Just one thing- if these are sitting out in the garden in the rain, are any of the metals rustable (I made up that word)? Could the nuts, rods, or metal doorknobs rust?
I pulled two from my garden to see what they look like. I'm in Wisconsin and they have been outside since being made for this Instructable. About a year and a half, including one full Winter. The beads have zero rust and were just dirty. Washed up perfectly. The knows on top also were rust free. However, the threaded rod has blackened and has some rust. I didn't even notice this rust or discoloration until pulling them from the dirt. Frankly, I am very pleased with how well they have withstood the weather here in Wisconsin. Summers that will see highs in the 80's and 90's and at least a week of 100's and below zero temps in the Winter.
Hi i was wondering if you could tell me the website where you found the acrylic beads. Thank you :)
Hello. I got them from Ebay. I just looked now to see what they are going for today. , for the gem style ones it is 9.85 for 100 free shipping from welcome-hellofriend as the seller, china. The mixed ones I found for 6.64 for 100 from china as well, also free shipping. And there are many many other sellers. Do a search for - acrylic bracelet beads - and then go to he wholesale section. Also, I quoted the price for the Buy It Now option. The auctions are going for even less. There are also glass beads, porcelian and clay. Hope this helps.
E-6000 is a jewelry glue, so it can be used with the threaded metal rods also.
very cute. I would probably use a down rod and use E-6000 or heavy body gel acrylic medium to glue the last bead and the door knob on top.
I like the glue idea because my children keep unscrewing the know and playing with the beads =)
If one can't find threaded rod, then maybe you could use any small diameter rod and just place a large "bead" of hot glue in place of the nut? I am anxious to make these! <3
It's said that if you please the Faeries, whose home is the flowers & fauna, then they in turn will try to please you. Love this!
Very cute and colorful!
Gorgeous! I love those beads.
