Garden Box Construction (4'x6')

Have you ever wanted to build or buy a garden box?  The cost of pre-built boxes and lumber itself is extremely expensive.  Fortunately you can build one for just a few dollars in nails and tools if you use wood pallets.

Let's get started.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Lumber -
1) 4 - 6ft pieces of 2'x4'
2) 4 - 4ft pieces of 2'x4'
3) 4 - 7in pieces of 2'x3' (can be easily substituted for 4"x4" or 2"x2", etc..)

PVC - 
1) 6 - 7in pieces of 3/4" PVC piping
2) 3 - 10ft pieces of 1/2" PVC piping

Hardware -
1) 6 - 3/4" pipe fasteners 

Tools - 
Power Miter Box or Table Saw


Depending on construction either:
-Box of 2" 18Ga. galvanized nails
-Nail Gun
-Air Compressor 


-Box of 2"-3" Screws
-Drill
-Drill Bit

for the pvc u could tap into it and and put hole in the pvc and make it a watering swstem in it that would be cool and put a green house canvise over to make it work extremely well

To answer your question yes I have. When I made mine I made them out of 2x6s though and made them longer, and narrower than yours. I just went with the 8 foot length the wood came in, I made mine 32 inches wide inside too. I get two rows in each box, and stuff is easy to reach.

For tools I used my radial arm saw, but I could have just as easily used a circular saw and a speed square. One tool I found indispensable constructing my garden boxes was 90 degree corner clamps. Those made putting the boxes together easy.

Very nice box - assembling lots of these would be really easy and cost effective. :D
