Introduction: Gemstone/Rupee Pillows
You might need a bigger wallet!
This is a SUPER simple pattern to make gemstone pillows. With this diamond shape they are reminiscent of the currency from The Legend of Zelda video game, rupees, but you could change the shape to make other kind of gemstones... diamonds... Chaos Emeralds... the possibilities are endless! These sew up really quick, so you'll have a whole pile of riches in no time!
These are 15 x 8.5 x 5" (very big and squishy!) but you can scale it to any size you like. I originally made these back in 2012. https://bunniebard.deviantart.com/art/Green-Rupee-pillow-312604155
Step 1: Materials and Pattern
You will need:
-Three shades of fleece: a light, a dark, and a medium. 1/4th yard of each is more than enough!
-Something to sew with!
Pattern - You will need to cut:
-Two center diamond shapes in the medium color
-Four long side shapes, two in the medium and two in the dark color
-Eight short top/bottom point shapes. Four will be the dark color, two the medium, and two the light.
Step 2: Sewing the Pieces Together...
Start with the outer pieces. Sew each outer piece to each other, making a ring. Pin the inside of the ring onto the center diamond shape, and sew around carefully, trying not to pinch at the corners too much.
BE CAREFUL-- the second side should have the ring sewn together THE REVERSE WAY as the first ring. This means when you line the two halves up together, the dark side pieces will match together, the light top point will match... you want each side of your pillow to be a mirror, you want the shading to match!
Once both halves are done, pin them right sides together and sew around, leaving a good-sized hole to turn it right side out.
Step 3: Finishing
Stuff! I buy giant boxes of fiberfill, but any material would work. Got a bunch of old shirts? Cut 'em up! Once it's stuffed to as firm as you would like it, hand-stitch a ladder stitch along the opening and pull shut.
