This is my first real attempt at making jewelry. I have marble all over my yard and always wanted to make something out of it. So I decided to make a crushed pink marble heart pendent with a wave of white marble running through it.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

The materials for this project are relativity inexpensive.
Materials

22 gauge Sheel sheet ( I got a 12 in. x 12in. from homedepot for about $7)
16 gauge steel wire ( I got 25 ft. for $3)
2 part Epoxy resin ( I got "Easy Cast"from Michaels for $13 and I only used .5 of a tsp of the resin)
A normal paper clip
Etowah marble (pink)
Creole marble ( white with blue streaks)

Tools

Template ( I cant draw to save my life. I goggled heart and printed out one of wikipeda's images.)
Sand paper (100 grit, 150 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit, 1000 grit, 2000 grit. The higher grits can be found in the automotive section of walmart for about $3 a pack)
Roatory tool (I used a Demeral and the sanding drum bit)
Grinder (I used a small bench grinder)
Tin cutters ( Homedeop sells a 3 pack for $10)
Propane torch, solder, and flux ( Homedepot has a starter one for $20 and it comes with solder and flux)
Hammer
Polishing compound

Step 2: Shape the Heart and Wave

Shape 16 gauge wire into a heart.

I found it easier to start at the bottom of the heart and work around using the template as a guide. I used my fingers and pliers to shape the heart.

Shape the paper clip into two waves going through the middle of the heart.

Place the heart wire heart and the wave on the 22 gauge steel sheet

Step 3: Solder, Shape, and Sand

Solder the wire heart and paperclip to the steel plate.

This was my first atement at useing a tourch to solder. It turned out ok. Icould of placed the solder better the top of the heart came lose during sanding. I had to go back and add a little more solder. Here is a good solder guide

Cut out the heart and grind/sand down the edges.

Step 4: Loop

Take a paper clip and wrap it around a dremel bit. Make one side into a circle while leaving a strait edge on one side to use to attach with.

Solder the Loop to the top of the heart. For this I didn't want to use the torch and mess up the other solder joints. So I used a souldering iron and just added heat to the top of the heart and the loop.

Shape the solder joint and sand the heart.

Step 5: Epoxy

Crush a fragment of both types of marble. I used 2 pieces of paper on a hard surface and a hammer. This made it easy to move. Make sure there is enough to fill the heart. The size of the majority of the crushed marble should be a little bigger than the size of salt. With larger chunks mixed in.

Test the pendent with water to find out how much epoxy it will take to fill. I used .5 tbs in my pendent

Follow the directions given by the manufacturer of the epoxy.

Divide up the epoxy in to 2 containers. Add the pink marble to one and white marble to the other. Add as much or as little marble to the epoxy. I made the epoxy almost like play dough. I wish I would have added more larger chunks to mine to give it more of a rocky feel.

Add the epoxy mixture to the pendent. Use a heat gun or blow dryer to force the air bubbles to rise to the top and use the paper clip to pop them.

Wait for it to fully harden. Mine took about 72 hours to fully harden.

Step 6: Polish

Sand the pendent. Started with 100, 150, 220, 400, 1000, and ended with 2000 grit.

Use a polishing compound with a buffing wheel to finish the pendent.
