Using this easy method, you can have hands as soft as a baby's tush and shiny, healthy fingernails. Soak your hands in a mixture of a little bit of fabric softener with a nice smell and warm-hot water. Only pour a tiny bit of fabric softener into the water, enough to cloud the water some. DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE ANY OPEN CUTS/WOUNDS BECAUSE IT IS NOT FOR INTERNAL USE. If you use a different kind than mine, check to make sure that it is ok to touch skin. I only know that MINE works for sure. If you do not have any softener i suggest trying to find my kind because a) i know it works and b) it is AWESOME for washing stuff- works great and is very good-smelling and softening. It's in the picture, but if you're unclear then ask in the comments and i will happily answer.
Optional:
-add marbles or something comparable to the bottom and relax your hand on them
-squeeze a few drops of lemon or lime juice for a citrus effect

                                                            Enjoy!

I am intrigued by this idea, and wonder, if it does work, why. I am generally afraid of fabric softener, and avoid it, but maybe the ingredients in your brand are non-toxic?? Could you post the ingredients list?

I am searching to try and find a way to heal my paper-thin nails. Did you have normal nails when you started doing this, or were your nails thin and weak?

Thanks for posting your instructable.
