I love my Keurig Coffee Maker and if you are like me you probably enjoy experimenting with other non prepackaged coffee blends that aren't available in KCup form. That is where the "My KCup" accessory comes into play. For those unfamiliar, it allows one to brew a cup of their favorite coffee blends without needing to buy them in KCup form (if they are even available). Unfortunately the My KCup in my opinion brews a rather weak cup of coffee compared to it's pre-manufactured counterpart. Rest easy! I have found a fix that doesn't cost a dime! All you need is a "USED" KCup. Follow along. I have photos attached in order to make it easier to follow.
Great solution - and it doesn't cost a cent!!
In fact, the tip about lowering the gasket is something that shouldn't and wouldn't be necessary if Keurig gave a crap about it's target market.
I immediately noticed that the Keurig makes a noticeably weaker cup of coffee, because it just dumps hot water into the k-cup. [ The Tassimo design coffee disc forces the water through metered orifices in the disc for more complete saturation of the grounds].
After making two cups of coffee i opened the k-cup and noticed that the water makes a water hole straight through instead of being disributed through the entire surface of all the coffee grounds inside the cup. I like your idea and will keep it in mind. For now i am using Disposa K-cups with 2 paper filters instead of just one, in order to restrict the flow of liquid in an attempt to get more satuaration of the coffee inside the k-cup.Also it allows me to prefill 50 cups so i dont need to bother with messy grounds on a daily basis.
If im not satisfied with that, then i will attempt to use your idea. Thanks for posting.
I like to prepare the little paper cups ahead of time, then use as I need them. I found the miniature muffin pans hold the little paper cups filled with coffee real well, for now stored in a covered 9x13 baking pan.

I am trying this and if it doesn't work....this thing is going in the trash and I am going to go buy a new Cuisinart!!
What I have figured out and now apply to making my own K-Cups is, how they grind the coffee in the K-Cups. It is not a fine grind nor a medium grind, it is some where in between. If you grind it to fine the water flows through the filter and gives you what I call a "dark stained coffee looking drink", but still without a real coffee taste. And if you use the coffee right out of the can or bag you purchased, it gives you a "lighter stained coffee looking drink", still not a real coffee drink. Being Military, I like to drink what we call Military or Police coffee, very strong to keep us awake.
So what I did was after using my last K-Cup, I opened it up and dumped out the grounds on a paper towel and let it dry. Once it dried, I felt the texture of the grounds. I got out my blender checking to make sure I had "Grind" as a choice on it, got my store bought coffee grounds out and placed about 1 cup of coffee in the blender and put it on "GRIND" for about 45 seconds, took a spoon and mixed the grounds up getting all the way to the bottom of the container, put the lid back on and put it on GRIND again, for another 45 seconds. Then felt the texture of my grounds verses the K-Cup grounds. One more time I mixed the grounds in the blender all the way to the bottom, and put it on "GRIND" again for another 30 seconds. Tested the texture and what do you know it felt the same.
Now here is something else I figured out, when you fill your My K-Cup filter you need to make sure you leave at least an 1/8 of an inch from the top of the filter itself and DO NOT PACK THE COFFEE GROUNDS IN THE FILTER! This is very important. The reason is, when the water flows into the filter if it is packed to tight it can not swirl the grounds around and may stop brewing or get plugged up. In any case you will not get a good cup of coffee and there will probably be lots of grounds in your cup.
Another thing I do is after brewing 3-4 cups in my Keurig, I leave the filter out place a cup in, and hit brew, small cup. This helps clean out the grounds whether you are using K-Cups or My K-Cup filter and helps prevent the grounds from plugging up the metal puncture point on your brewer. I have not had to use a paper clip to unplug the point, since I figured this out.
Finest grind possible, maybe.
I also bought a set of My-Kaps off eBay.
They let you clean out, refill, and reuse K-Cups with your own coffee.
The package insert states that most pre-packaged K-Cups use close to an Espresso grind. So for, it's working well, bit it's a little messy packing my usual amount of ground coffee into the cup.

However, the method used in this instructable may allow you to purchase official k-cups less often, since the filter is reusable.
Thanks for the instructable!
