Step 4Finding the hosts file.
A comment from aneel persuaded me to add this:
On unix-style machines (including Linux and Mac OS X), the hosts file is /etc/hosts. You'll likely have to be an administrator to edit it. Try this in terminal on the Mac:
sudo open /etc/hosts
And this in a terminal on the Linux box:
sudo emacs /etc/hosts
or
sudo vi /etc/hosts
Thanks Aneel
In the menu bar click on tools, folder options. Navigate to the view tab and click on the show hidden files and folders. click apply and then OK.
Doble click on "Hosts".
Select Notepad to open the file with.
At the bottom under the local host type the IP Address you wrote down earlier. Make sure that you include the dots in the number. Then put a space then type the fake domain name; I found out that if it has google in it blocking systems are less likely to block it. I made mine yes.google.com
An example of what to type to redirect yes.google.com to instructables.com: 72.249.66.26 yes.google.com
