Introduction: Getting Your First Dogecoins

Dogecoin is an open-source peer-to-peer Litecoin derived cryptocurrency featuring a Shiba Inu from the 'Doge' Internet meme on the logo. This virtual currency has recently gained popularity as an Internet tipping system, and the community recently sent the Jamaican Bobsled Team to the Olympics.

Here I'll show you the easiest steps of getting your first Dogecoins!
This will include first getting Bitcoins and then trading them through a virtual currency website. Both websites used are highly reputable and process billions of dollars in transactions.

Step 1: Make an Account at Coinbase

To get your first bitcoins to trade, create an account at Coinbase. To buy your first bitcoin, you will need to connect a bank account and verify a phone number.

Click 'Buy your first bitcoin' followed by 'Verify A Bank Account'. From here follow the steps to link your bank account.

Step 2: Buy Bitcoins

Once your bank account is verified, click the 'Buy/Sell' tab to buy the amount of bitcoin that you'd like to have.

Step 3: Make an Account at Bter.com

Bter.com is where we will convert our bitcoins into Dogecoins. Create an account here by filling out the necessary information (we won't have to link a bank account or verify a phone number this time!).

Once you are logged in, click on 'ACCOUNT' on the menu bar.

Click 'BTC deposit' on the left side of the screen.

Step 4: Transfer Funds From Coinbase to Bter

Copy the address shown on your screen.

Log back into Coinbase and click 'Send/Request'.

Paste the address from Bter.com into the form with the amount of BTC you wish to transfer.

When finished, click 'Send Money'. When the transaction is partially confirmed, your account on Bter.com will be credited. The duration of time this may take will vary based off of how much money you are transferring (larger amounts transfer quicker).

Step 5: BTC to DOGE!!!!!!!

Click 'DOGE' in the menu bar from Bter.com.

Go to the BUY DOGE section, and buy as many Dogecoins as you'd like!

Step 6: Storage!

It is not recommended to leave your coins on an exchange - follow this guide on how to keep your new Dogecoins secure!
