In 5th grade math near the end of (I think) 2nd trimester we were learning about proportions. So for a end of trimester project our teacher had us choose an item, take measurements, and scale it up to a larger model, which we had to make. I decided to scale up my Nintendo DS. Yes, the original one. :)

Mostly made by my dad at the time (as many people at younger ages tend to have their parents "help" them with their projects<like me>) I don't remember most of the process, that and it was about four years ago so there isn't a Step-By-Step Instructable for it. We scaled it up with a ratio of 11:47 (my current measurements being 5.5 inches on the actual DS and 23.5 inches on the up-scaled one) and made the box out of cardboard. I covered it in aluminum foil so it had the original silver look (though now I know that duct tape is always a better alternative to foil when replicating metals) and painted the bottom part black. The only problem was I didn't use acrylic paint and the black turned into a gray-green upon contact with cardboard. So that's why the buttons and other stuff doen's look black. The screens were hand drawn/written and holes were poked for the speaker. Some of the other stuff was drawn on with Sharpie. You can't see it, but I replicated most of the panels/writing stuff on the bottom of the DS in Sharpie, except the camera can't catch it.

The DS in the pictures is mine, and it's stayed alive (barely) with me ever since I got it, which was about when it came out. I loved it to pieces; literally. The hinge broke several times. IT STILL WORKS THOUGH!!!! :D

The Mario Kart toy was just something I had lying around, cause I figured that the giant Nintendo DS was a map in Mario Kart DS. :P

Dude! i made something similar when i was in middle school! It was a giant sized Nintendo (original) game cartridge out of foam board, for a school prop for a presentation on Gold (gold is used to coat electronic contacts).

The question is of course, where do you put it after you're done. haha!
