I made this Christmas gift set for my grand-daughter, Maya, using the Lion Brand Yarn Seven Seas Baby Set Pattern No. 60060 as a start off point as I am a "returning" knitter and thought I needed a basic (Easy) pattern. The pattern shows a boy and for Maya I made some modifications. She is a small size 3 so I knitted the sweater with the instructions for size 3 and used an 8 instead of the recommended size 9 needles. I made unequal size stripes so they had to be reversed on the other side to match up on the side seams. I used a cute girl pattern for the matching "ear" hat by simply measuring her head size and using the sweater gauge for the number of stitches, ribbed at the ends and sewed together at the sides with attached tassels. I knitted a hat and sweater in the same yarn for a small purchased Teddy bear which Maya enjoyed as much as her mother enjoyed the sweater! The mittens were made with a standard two needle pattern. A note of caution: I was given the beautiful pink yarn, which was part mohair, and Maya commented that the sweater was "scratchy" so I wouldn't use that type of yarn again for a child.
Nice job!
