Giving First Life Gifts in Second Life using Amazon.com

In the virtual world Second Life it is easy to form very close friendships with someone you may never have the opportunity to meet in person. Second Life residents celebrate First Life holidays like Valentine's Day and Christmas as well as personal celebrations; birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and often exhange gifts in world. Recently a friend was celebrating her First Life birthday and I chose not only to give her a present in world, but also give her something she could use outside of Second Life. Not knowing her First Life information, name - address - etc, here is how I did it.

Step 1 Purchase the Gift Certificate on Amazon

After you click on the gift certificate option, you will see a drop down box for the type of gift certificate you want to purchase. For this project, be sure to choose the E-Mail option.

This is ok, however isn't SL $ exchangeable for real $ anyways. Kind of pointless, you could just give them money in Second Life, with a voucher you made yourself. This just looks like you're posting a billboard for amazon.com, a particularly effective one during the holiday season as well. I guess we can't have even a single commercial-free life.

Commercial free life? HAHAHA, you've obviously never been on SL. If you think the ads are bad in RL, lol.

I wasn't making a comment about the ratio of ads in RL vs SL. I do hoever, think that using RL advertising in SL takes away from the whole experience. Sort of like watching "The Island", which seems futuristic and sci-fi, until you see that the featured vehicle is currently on the market, and that everyone on/in the island wears Puma track suits. SL and RL currency are interchangeable, but if that was the only coinciding economic system, it would make SL a lot more convincing.
