Don't be afraid of leather work you need just few things a large needle some flax thread a sharp tiped awl these usually have three sides. to joing pieces you mark your pieces using a fork or evenely spaced dividers. punch the hole with awl and after few trys you will learn how to get the holes right and qwith flax you pull it tigtht and can fasten leather together. theres a technique where you have needle on each end of the flax thread over and back through with second needle that be good instructable why dont you do it i'm too busy

Awesome, I plan on making these once I get all the materials together. Instead of a buckle from a shoe, I'm gonna try a sort of d-ring belt system.

Ooh! I like that idea! I've been using elastic I got from the fabric store because I found fixed straps difficult to adjust to a comfortable position D-rings would probably work nicely. Might get a bit uncomfortable if you like wearing your goggles tight; I think they'd dig into your temple (or wherever on your skull you placed them)..

if only i had the resources to cut pieces off of a coupler *sigh*

Why don't you try getting a PVC coupler and using that? Most plumbing can be found in both metal and PVC variants, and PVC can be cut with just a hacksaw and you can spray-paint it the proper color if you need to. To aintMichael: Great 'ible! I got some old bakelite gas welding goggles on e-bay before I discovered instructables (won two pairs, so I have one with clear lenses and one with green lenses). I use them as shop goggles and occasionally sunglasses. I really like what you've done here, though, so I may end up trying my hand at making a pair. For variety you may want to do the strap ends with rivets instead of stitching, but the stitching around the eyecups looks amazing.

Hmm, time to pull out my plans for a 2-passenger Zeppelin. Would a steam-driven turboprop count as steampunk?

These look great and I want to make some myself, but before I go out and buy the materials for it, I was wondering how difficult it would be for someone who hasn't really ever made anything with their hands to make? I draw sometimes but I usually just use photoshop to make artworks. I really want to start making things with my hands and I wanted to know a few things about this project, like how exactly does the coupling stay inside the leather? Did you use any glue at all or is it all in how tight it is? And how did you sew the inner part where the leather overlaps? Wouldn't the needle run into the coupling? If you could answer all those questions it would be great.. Thanks.

These look really awesome but the best part is that you threw a how to up here. This is awesome, I anxiously await more from you.
