Gorilla Glue Sculpture Casting

Gorilla Glue Sculpture Casting

A figural sculpture made entirely out of glue!

The inspiration for this piece came from my interpretation of this out-of-context misquotation from the Make it Stick contest rules: "The rules are simple: make a new Instructable that involves... Gorilla Glue... and is awesome."   This is the strictest possible interpretation- not just made with Gorilla Glue, but made out of Gorilla Glue.

The figure comes from a project in which I made a new sculpture every day for two months (its all on my blog- http://sculptorbyday.blogspot.com/).  You can cast any object that can endure hot wax and does not have too many nooks and crannies (otherwise you will not be able to remove it from the mold).

Step 1Materials and Equipment

Materials and Equipment

This is a simple casting process that does not require many materials, and only household equipment.  You will need:

1. The object that you want to cast
2. Wax (I just used a few old candles)
3. Petroleum Jelly
4.  An oven
5.  Gorilla Glue

Additional recommended materials:

1. Tin foil
2. Dremel tool
3. Pocket knife

Note: The Petroleum Jelly is conspicuously absent in the photo- borrowed it from a friend and didn't have it when I took this.

Gorilla glue foams up and sets because of water-in whatever is being glued or in the atmosphere. Mixing a little water into the glue should cause it to foam up and set without the layers-I was hoping that this was how you were doing it (I understand the theory, but haven't put it into practice).
