This cake was made for my 7 year old niece who went to the Grand Canyon for her birthday and was inspired by everything she saw.

Step 1: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

I baked two cakes using this Heritage style bundt cake pan.

Step 2: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

After the cakes cooled and were removed from the pan I cut them into sections along the crevices such that I had "peaks" and "cliffs".

Step 3: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

I arranged the curved pieces so I could have a North and South Rim of the canyon.

Step 4: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

Using brown and white frosting as well as coloring gel I was able to get a few variations for red and orange rocks.

Step 5: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

Blue shimmering frosting gel was used for the river.

Step 6: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

Small plastic animals were used as cake toppers.

Step 7: Grand Canyon Birthday Cake

The candles managed to stay lit while we sang happy birthday and there was no danger of a forest fire.
Great thinking ! Turned out great!
