Step 13Mount the propeller arm

Mount the propeller arm
Materials:
  • Propeller arm trapezoid.
  • GA2 angle bracket.
  • two 1"-long carriage bolts, either 3/16" or 1/4", and four nuts.
  • two medium screws.
Line up the GA2 bracket with the tapered end of the arm and drill one body hole (3/16" or 1/4") through the plywood.  Insert a bolt from the plywood side and tap it home with a hammer; then add the bracket, a nut, and a locknut. Warning: GA2 holes aren't symmetric; don't lose track of which GA2 face is the hole guide.  Repeat with the second body hole and bolt.

Drill two 9/64" body holes for medium screws.  Clamp the arm to the power mast near the top, drill one pilot hole and mount one medium screw.

The angle bracket needs to tilt slightly downward -- if you have a spirit level, less than half a bubble.  Here's why.  In operation, the drive belt lifts some water up to the pulley wheel.  The tilt is to encourage the water to drip off the pulley rather than flowing into the wheel's hub and out the spokes to the rim, where it can fling off and land on nearby burners.

Drill another pilot hole in the mast and mount the second medium screw.
